Today I drove out to Beaver, AR. It’s a town of less than 100 people situated on the White River between Table Rock Lake and Beaver Lake.

The “City of Beaver” operates a park/camp ground on the banks of the river. I went to check the river levels and reserve a campsite for this weekend. Beaver Park makes a perfect base for fishing/kayaking that section of the river.

There’s always a cool breeze blowing through the valley, and because Beaver is so remote, the night sky is always black and full of stars!

There’s a pretty cool bridge connecting Beaver to Holiday Island too. It's the only wooden, one lane suspension bridge left in the state…

Those guys really should not have been crossing at the same time! 8O

After I got my camping plans sorted out, I went on to another favorite place…

Eureka Springs is such a beautiful town in the middle of the week when the tourists aren’t so thick.

Quote:
Eureka Springs is a unique Victorian resort village. The city has steep winding streets filled with Victorian-style cottages and manors. The old commercial section of the city has an alpine character, with an extensive streetscape of well-preserved Victorian buildings. The buildings are primarily constructed of local stone and lie along streets that curve around the hills and rise and fall with the topography in a five-mile long loop. Some buildings have street-level entrances on more than one floor. Eureka Springs has been selected as one of America's Distinctive Destinations by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

The town is full of art galleries, cool shops, and great places to eat.

If you love Victorian architecture, the place is to die for…

I grew up canoeing and fishing Buffalo National River with my dad. I usually caught more sunburns than smallies, but we always had fun! :D

I planned to kayak the whole 120 miles this summer, but work schedules and the drought thwarted me.

Next spring I might try to take two weeks and do the whole thing at once... That would be an epic adventure.

Here's part of a documentary and a cool song about the river.

I'd love to run the "Hailstone" section of the river too. It's only floatable for a few weeks in the spring.

My favourite place that I've ever been to was the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island. There's so many things to do on this resort for everybody of different interests that there's hardly a need to go off of the resort. There are also a lot of movies filmed at Atlantis and a lot of celebrities stay here. It's also home to the famous Bridge Suite which is the most luxurious suite in the world and celebrities like Michael Jackson and Oprah have stayed in this suite, it's also in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Some activities on the resort include:
-numerous pools
-a large lazy river that goes around the resort
-a salt water pool with real fish
-water slides including a big drop water slide and one that goes into a glass tunnel where you can see fish and sharks floating around you from outside the tunnel
-casino
-lots of restaurants
-impeccable service
-oceanside lounge space
-child daycare/camps
-teen night club
-bars/nightclubs
-much more
-swimming with dolphins
-petting stingrays and other sea creatures

I like visiting the downtown section of my city. There's not much there commercial-wise, but that aspect gives the area a quaint charm to it. Since the university is almost right next to downtown, the area has a lot of attractions for the students. There's another section adjacent to downtown for historic homes and buildings. I always like driving through there.

If I ever win the powerball, I'll move back to Savannah and spend the rest of my life buying and restoring old homes in Starland and around Forsyth Park.

Savannah has the oldest intact city plan in North America (from 1733). The place is Hell in the middle of summer, but Heaven in spring, fall and winter...

Liked your pics GoonSquad,I enjoy the Buffalo river also,I live on the Little Buffalo so I have been blessed with having the beauty right in my back yard.I want to try and get my son to take me on a winter float trip( he's an expert,he's done the river his whole life),there's not many tourists then so one can see the wildlife and enjoy the quiet.
I would also like to see the old cemetery that's in the movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and evil,I think it's called Bonadventure? That statue of the Savannah bird girl is awesome.Good luck with the powerball winnings.I lived further south than I do now and sometimes I miss the smell of Gardenias, they were my dads favorite.

Thanks!

That's really beautiful country down there! I've never floated the Little Buffalo, but I'd like to try sometime. I hear there's some good class III whitewater on the river.... I should probably hone my kayaking skills a bit more first.

I did some whitewater when I was younger. These days, it's mostly flat water and fishing.

You know, I've never actually been to Bonaventure Cemetery... It's out in a little fishing town called Thunderbolt (suburb of Savannah). The Bird Girl statue is actually in the Telfair Museum of Art now (in downtown Savannah). I have been there and it's pretty cool...

My hometown, I miss it a lot. Here is a video showing some pictures of the city - if you don't like bagpipe music you may wish to play it without sound.

The Greenbrier Bunker. I want to tour again (camera batteries died the first time  ). It's nice to have private tours, since the normal crowd would be unbearable, though private tours cost much more (and require some luck as well). The only downside (aside from potential crowds) is the fact that when CSX purchased a large amount of the property, they demanded no photographs be taken to protect privacy, therefore cameras aren't allowed in certain areas, which is rather unfortunate given my desire to build an "exact" scale model of the bunker for Warhammer 40K.

Wow, that was an awesome video. I love old cities!

My dream trip would be a tour of Roman ruins from Hadrian's Wall to Herculaneum. If I ever make that trip, I might have to sneak up to Edinburgh...
