I have a couple of netbooks with windows 95 and windows 98 on them.

I grew up with using windows software as early as 7 years old and though I don't use either netbook often, using the old windows software on them can make me feel nostalgic.

It's not a big deal for me. So long as the old version in question isn't Vista, I am usually OK. I do still have a netbook with XP, and specified it when i bought it because 7 Starter is such a locked down POS.

I currently use Windows 7 and I'm happy with it, don't think I will be in a rush to upgrade to 8. I remember Win 98 being a good O/S to deal with, and I also still enjoy using Windows XP when I have to. The O/S on my very first computer had Win Me pre installed, not the best of starts!

I have a Windows 98 VM (under Virtual PC) that I use on occasion to run old 16 bit games, and I've also been able to get Windows 3.1 working in DosBox.

I loved Windows 2000 back in the day (it was solid, clean, and fast, while everyone else used 98SE or even...*gag*...Windows ME)

Haha likewise.

People often see it and say things like "omg why are you still running Windows 9x/2k?

Windows versions seem to alternate between crappy and good. As 7 is good and stable, 8 will probably be problematic. Therefore I will be skipping it too and waiting for the one after that.

I use Windows XP because my computer came with it. I've never been so dissatisfied that I wanted to change it. When I get my next computer, it will probably run Windows 8(or Mountain Lion) but for now, I am okay with what I have.

(Thread moved from Random to Computers...)

I've still got an old laptop with Windows ME on it! It still works and is used occasionally, but it too low spec to have a different OS on it.

As long as it's an NT based Windows I'm OK. I utterly detest Windows 95, 98, and ME.

Not really, it seems to old and too slow for me, and boring looking. The oldest I've ever not minded using was XP on my dad's old computer and my nanna's computer. Now I have my own, with a new windows on it, I think 7.

Windows 2000 if i had chance.
I used to use W2000 as a kid on a old Dell laptop.
It was awesome. I sort of miss Windows 2000. So stable, so good....

I'd like to see about the previous versions but I've used XP and 7... I like the way 7 looks but I grew up using XP so I'm very biased.

Speaking from purely a security standpoint,

I often have machines that run older versions of windows (including a sizeable instance of Sun xVM aka VirtualBox that does the same) to examine how varying degrees of windows iteration react to being put "in the wild" (public IP), and see how long it takes for them to sustain a negative state of function through normal use.

Often times it takes a Fresh Windows 98 install a matter of minutes. (6 for me personally).

Windows ME -- Roughly 10 minutes
Windows 2000 unpatched -- an hour or so.

and so forth and so forth. Its quite exciting really to watch them behave.
