1. Back in 1961 people of colour were called 'Negroes.' So how can the recently produced Obama 'birth certificate state he is 'African-American' when the term wasn't even used at that time?

2. The birth certificate that the White House released lists Obama's birth as 4 August 1961. It also lists Barack Hussein Obama as his father. No big deal, right? At the time of Obama's birth, it also shows that his father is aged 25 years old, and was born in " Kenya , East Africa ". This wouldn't seem like anything of concern, except the fact that Kenya did not even exist until 1963, two whole years after Obama's birth, and 27 years after his father's birth. So, how could Obama's father have been born in a country that did not yet exist? Until Kenya was formed on 12 Dec 1963, it was known as the " British East Africa Protectorate"

3. On the birth certificate released by the White House, the listed place of birth is "Kapi'olani
Maternity & Gynecological Hospital". This cannot be, because the hospital(s) in question in 1961 were called "KauiKeolani Children's Hospital" and "Kapi'olani Maternity Home", respectively. The name did not change to Kapi'olani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital until 1978, when these two hospitals merged. So, how can the new 1978 name of the merged hospitals be on a birth certificate that is dated 1961? Unless, of course, the certificate was only recently made by some poor researcher as a cover up.

And what is the source that any of this appears on the birth certificate? I have to think these charges are the fevered dreams of birther cretins.

A) I don't think it lists his race. It lists his father race as "African" on the line next to where it identifies the father's birthplace as "Kenya, East Africa". So there is no need to worry about "African-American" because, well, that's not what it says.

B) The hospital staff is not going to double check the info you supply for your birthplace. Whatever Obama's father chose to call his place of birth was his place of birth. If an Arab wrote Palestine for his birthplace on his kid's US bc form, a nurse probably isnt going to come out and argue right of return with him. Maybe at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

C) What is today called Mount Kenya, the namesake of modern Kenya, has been there for millions of years. By 1960 Independence was coming and two parties formed, KADU and KANU. Two guesses what the K stands for. Jomo Kenyatta ran KANU. I sense a pattern. What would a proud black son of the region, just several year out of a brutal rebellion against the British, write down on a hospital form as his birthplace? the newly forming free Kenya? Or British East Africa?

D) I have no idea about the hospital and have no interest in looking it up.

That is just the birther conspiracy theory.

No one can become president of the U.S. without proving that she or he was born in the U.S. President Obama's birth certificate has been posted all over the web, but that isn't enough for some people.

I think it's more of a matter that they don't want to believe the evidence that his birth certificate is legit, no matter how many mental gymnastics they have to perform to keep their conspiracy theory going.

Well thing is, those running the show don't really seem to give a damn. So my perspective is I have heard of the possibilty of the birth certificate being fake and its believable(since our government blatantly ignores the constitution and its own laws on a regular basis) but since it doesn't appear to make any difference in Obama being president I guess I see no reason to dwell on it.

I mean people can scream about how fake it is all they want and I doubt its really going to effect any government policy.

You are making the elementary mistake of confusing a birth certificate with the information that was enetered into the Register of Births.

Your questions would have merit if the Birth Certificate had been issued in 1961, but if you examine the certificate, you will doubtless find that it has a later date of issue. Absent statutory direction to the contrary, it is perfectly proper for a public authority to extract information from a Register, and set it out in a certificate in a form that is consistent with extant nomenclature.

The first link on a google search for "obama birth certificate" debunks these three exact points. The short version: it lists African, not African-American; Kenya was commonly called Kenya since about 1920, even if that was not its official name yet; and the hospital got its name in 1931 and kept it until 1971, after which there was a merger with another hospital and some name changes.

Birthers, your attention please - Give it the hell up already. Please move on to legitimate complaints and issues with President Obama's record and actions as a politician. While you're at it, please grow up and join the rest of us. That is all.

Conspiracy theories can take on a life of their own.

A recent term is "fusion paranoia," which is defined as the promiscuous acceptance of almost any conspiracy - even contradictory ones. Alex Jones is a good example.

The idea that there are certain people "running the show" is also a conspiracy theory.
