Hi Everybody!

Here is my original composition/performance/recording called 'jim'- Theme tune for:

Cello (under £200 from Ebay and bowed with a german (underhand hold) double bass bow),
Flute (Yamaha YFL311)
and
Virtual piano (midi from yamaha P45 and 'The Grandeur' from Komplete 10)

Recorded with a £200 condenser microphone
and
Sequenced in Ableton 9.

Rhythmic divisions, fifths, octaves and unisons are employed to give a sense of waxing and waning (and/or to provide a sense of acceleration of the tempo at the start of phrases and retardation of the tempo towards the end of phrases despite the tempo remaining the same).

The idea for the first four bars was improvised on my long neglected flute live on camera (the remainder flowed out rapidly later in privacy) at the behest of the cameraman who is in the process of recording a documentary about my life with the working title 'a creative mind'.
However, I am hoping that the documentary will be called simply 'jim' and that the narrative will be (essentially) 'I live in hell'.

I hope that if successful the documentary may help me secure access to appropriate accommodation, care and support in view of the way that I am affected by my autism, its interaction with my environment and the long standing difficulties that I have experienced.

The tune is melancholic and will accompany the end credits of the documentary.

'jim' has been described as a 'lovely tune' by a composer who has worked for the Hollywood film industry...

(admittedly I would have preferred the assistance of a cellist, pianist and recording engineer as I consider myself to be none of those things)

... and so I have decided to 'showcase' it here...

I very much hope you enjoy listening!

I have been offered a lower resolution version of the finished documentary to upload on to my youtube channel once it is released (proposed release date 10th June (my father's 89th birthday!)).

There is also a 'sketch' of the tune available on my youtube channel in a video which captures Musescore so that you might follow the notes on a great stave should you so desire (the finished tune turned out to be identical to the sketch asides from instrumentation and ornamentation!)

Thank you for your time and best wishes to all at Wrong Planet.

Reminds me of Conan ,and old BBC documentaries, shows, ... also a few notes remind me of the melodic part in Stairway to heaven. That da, da, da da. Anyway I'm not a musician. I know what an octave is, I know what a third, fifth is, I can't analyze the thing though, I couldn't tell you what key it was in. Root harmonics and all that, technical stuff.

It's good. Sounds professional too me. I wish you all the success and recognition in the world. Playing music is hard. Composing is even harder.

Thank you very much CoolHandLuke. I have only been a member of this site a couple of days and am already overwhelmed by a level of warmth and acceptance that I feel utterly undeserving of receiving and to which I don't quite know how to respond. Such lovely interactions and comments from everyone thus far. Wrong Planet be proud. All the best to you also CoolHandLuke. Jim.

Well, it's like any major city though. That feeling might stick with you until you go to the L&D or PPR folders.

I finally got my hands on my dream piano...and the obsession has begun. Not an ideal recording setup, but I love the piano!

Thank you! I can't always stay away from places completely. Everything in moderation.

I play the guitar. I used to try to sing. I made some songs a long while ago and put them on YouTube, but then I got scared of the internet and took them down. Back then, my playing was better than it is now. I had figured out that version of GarageBand enough to use it to record the songs and the video making software seemed much easier than the current version, too. I’d like to get back into it but I don’t have the time.

Started composing tracks about 10 years ago using ableton live. Up until a year or so ago I didn't know any Music theory, so I would hear the music in my head and then spend hours trying to find the matching keys on the keyboard hopefully before forgetting the music forever. In any case here is my channel:

That's the chillest song I've heard using that break, especially considering the tempo it's playing at.

I finally managed to figure out how to record screamed vocals using my condenser mic. :nerdy:
