I think it is a useful word to have.

NTs are a very diverse group who can't easily all be tarred by any one brush. That is a good point and one that a lot of people forget.

I don't see why we should be original with our language choices. The point of language is to communicate and that only works if both parties know what the word means. Most people on here know what neurotypical means.
