I just had a small magnet implanted in my right ring finger. This was done in order to allow me to sense electromagnetic fields. It will take a few months to heal and reach maximum sensitivity. I can already feel the EM field around my microwave and a slight field around my laptops power supply.

Here's a video of my magnet being "installed".

WARNING: there is some blood.

Get the idea from Shannon Larratt?

I read his experience with it a long time back, and it sounds pretty cool. A literal sixth sense.

Will you give updates as it heals? These kinds of mods are fascinating to me.

You must have a pretty high pain tolerance, to keep as calm and still as you did during the procedure. Doing stuff to fingertips can hurt like hell.

I actually got it because my friend (the one taking video) got one a year or so ago and was getting another one in her other hand. The idea of truly having a 6th sense and being able to feel EM fields sounded amazing, so I decided to get it.

I can't wait for it to heal and get more sensitive!

What is this, I don't even.

Just kidding. As disturbing to some as it may be, it's still really cool! Keep us posted on how it works.

Very cool, I'm also looking forward to any updates.

All you need now is an X-men or cyborg name.

Given how pervasive electricity is in modern life that ought to be interesting. I had to troubleshoot an electrical problem with my parent's house a while ago and needed a clamp-on ammeter but didn't have one. Having one built-in would've been convenient and awesome.
And being able to erase magnetic media on the sly could be fun. And a built-in stud finder would also be cool.

I guess if you need an MRI the magnet would be easily removable?

This was about 3 hours after it was put in.

Here was my first experiment with moving other magnets.

It is still a little sore, as if I slammed it in a door several days ago. The swelling has gone down quite a bit.

Just a little word of advice stay away from dc power plants. I have Neodymium in my hand from a failed experiment when was younger and trust me you don't want to get close to that many different magnetic fields. Also be careful with credit cards. :)

just found a couple more practical uses for the ability to sense EM fields. I can feel the EM pulse when spark plug coils and fuel injectors fire. So, I can tell if they are working or not just by placing my hand near them!

New MRIs do not require you to lie within a tube. Rather, patients having a MRI of the knee, ankle, foot, elbow, or wrist, can simply place that body part within the MRI machine. This type of machine does not work for MRI of the shoulders, spine, hips, or pelvis.

If you want to be a mechanic, then that is quite practical.
Otherwise, it seems like it would be more annoying than helpful, like when you are microwaving food.

I'd be worried that would cause a problem with metal detectors. I heard people with implanted medical devices have to show some kind of documentation of it to fly if it sets off the metal detector
