Ok, I'm trying to create a list of as many art traditions, low and high, folk and new, as possible. I'm organizing them by super category, then by tradition/genre. The traditions/genres are to be sorted in the order they first sprang up/reached some level of popularity, but that can happen after we collect everything. I'm not trying to get overly specific here, but it's fairly specific. I"m sort of looking at art scenes. The list I have now is far from complete and sucks. Now I want people who actually know what they are talking about to fix the mess I made as we have people obsessed with anything and everything.

Once I get an outrageous number of traditions/genres/scenes we need to create a general overview of the history of each super-tradition/medium, then a detailed description of the evolution of each sub-tradition including influential works and artists. Yeah. It's like wikipedia, only just art and it's assembled in a linear fashion. Stuff.

I'd like to add a few based on my past from Trinidad & Tobago.
1. As children, we used to play a game called 'Boy, Girl, Animal, Food, Thing, Total'. It was played with a pen & paper. When a letter was nominated, from each category we had to write the longest entry possible.
2. Pan, Calypso, Carnival. In have two-day festivities every year called Carnival where we use steel drums, have road marches to select best performer & song, food, drinks, etc. What category would this be under? It's like a Caribbean Mardi Gras, if you will.
3. I see the culinary arts are missing. One thing I find fascinating is the myriad of ways one can prepare a food item. For instance, the American natives have 32 recipes for corn - popcorn, pone, corn meal, boiled corn on the cob, corn mash, etc. One of our main fruits is mango so we have a huge variety of preparations - mango chutney, seasoned mango, table mango, etc. Can you imagine a list of the preparations of chicken? It would be an endless list - chicken Florentine, mango chicken, chicken cacciatore, steamed chicken, fried chicken, chicken fritters, chicken fried rice, salt & pepper chicken, braised chicken, grilled chicken, etc.
4. I don't know which category this would fall. I guess under games. In Trinidad we have a yearly games event. Some of the games include 'Climb the Greasy Pole', 'Stilt Walking', and 'Mask & Costume building.'
5. Where would roller coaster design be? And ride design for places like Universal Studios Hollywood or Disney World or Six Flags Great Adventure?
6. In film, was blockbuster & indie meant to refer to modern films?
7. In comicoid stuff, would live comics also count?
8. Where would graffiti go?

Too much detail for now, I had to be able to press post eventually.

1. Word games?
2. Festivals themselves? I'm not sure if they really belong here.
3. Yes, that category is very important.
4. Traditional games.
5. Architecture, I guess, I forgot to put that up as well.
6. Yes, they are two different modern film traditions and are very different in style.
7. Dunno what that is. The idea is that it's things that merge verbal and visual art.
8. With paintings.

I think you should maybe change brass sculpture to metal sculpture.
under handicrafts I suppose fiber art and wearable art?
Where does clothing design, especially haute couture, come in?

I am a fiber artist/knitter/jewelry artist, btw.

Conspicuously absent from this list is dance. While it's a performing art, it probably merits a subcategory of its own.

it 's interesting this idea sound kind like a project i did and class mates did in collage giving we could could to do a study of creative medium (though it was mainly focused on music as it was a music corse) anyway for this project i did a presentation the history of sound in video games. while other focused on topic like the history and evolution of dance music. if you want i could dig it out and send you a link to so you could use it as starting point for this project.
