Since I'm paranoid about security of my own Windows computer (already took measure to prevent attacks like HIPS, behavior-analysis, strict network filtering, port restriction, heuristics set on high, prevent unknown softwares as in it could prevent 0-days attacks, and isolation softwares), I wanted to use a Linux to work with USB that goes on public computers. I'm just not willing to put on the public USB on my Windows until I can get things ready set forward for attack prevention from the USB. I was thinking of setting up a linux designed for cleaning USB. The USB I'm using is cruzer micro 8GB. I'm on Acer Aspire AX3950-U2022.

I have Ubuntu 12.04 64bit on a 16 GB thumb drive. Works like a charm.

I'm not talking about putting Linux on a USB. I'm talking about using Linux to work with USBs and to prevent autorun attacks and/or to clean it.

if what you need are easy and safe formatting and cleaning tools for usb drives then you should use live cd's.

there are some security minded ones out there, Engarde comes to mind.

Perhaps Security Enhanced Linux, as used by the CIA and available from the National Security Agency at http://www.nsa.gov/research/selinux/
