Yesterday was election day, the "VVD" is now the biggest party of the Netherlands.

They were responsible for the laws that make me unable to go back to PROPER school, instead financially forcing me to take a 3 months "course" with some "social company" which I have to sign a contract with so I'll be tied to them for years as they move me from one tedious simple job to the other. "Us handicapped" is what they want to use to fill all the sh***y jobs they have to bring in foreigners to do now because our country has zero money for those sectors.

Ugh I'm so sick I can barely make proper sentences.

Zero money because it is lining the pockets of the rich instead?

I'm speechless...

...Well, aside from the preceding statement mentioning that I am speechless and this one explaining it.

I know, not helping. Sorry.

But I mean really, it saddens me that there is such bigotry in the world.

Sounds North Korean to me.

That evil people are praising the results is all the more proof that it's a disaster.

I don't know what side of the political spectrum they occupy but from what you've said the VVD sound like disgusting reactionaries.

There always was a dark right wing underbelly in dutch politics.

The VVD is the rich guy party.

The netherlands generally has like 5 to 8 parties that can matter in an election, spanning from "rightish" to "leftish" political ideologies. (with up to 10 small parties joining an election too, like a party -just- for animals.)

The VVD is the most right with the PvdA fourth or fifth, (putting them somewhat in the middle so generally the biggest party out of sheer middleness of ideas), but this election the VVD used "American political tactics" to pretty much make it appear as if the PvdA was the "most left" it can get and them being "the only right", forcing a lot of people into tactically(blindly) voting "more right" than they normally would. Draining the "social" side of Dutch politics, and now as the biggest party, able to force the PvdA from being "middle-leftish" to full on "right".

Politics have now officially become ALL about money in the Netherlands, much like in America. No longer do dutch politicians look upon money as something that is just oil for making the country run and taking it from whoever is able, making people proud of making this machine run. No we should now instead be happy to even be provided a job by these "jobproviders". Since everyone who has a lot of money clearly is some kind of extreme mastermind that needs to be pampered by luxuries and a workforce that follow them blindly and "dont speak without spoken too". Seriously if any of you guys work at nuke silo, the netherlands is about twice the size of New Jersey, please nuke us away. We're doomed anyway.

I'm sorry. Class warfare sucks.

How about the other parties? I have a hard time believing they're not putting up a fight... unless they too have become corrupt. :?

Well, this thread is surely overdramatizing the matter.

First of all, to give people a sense of direction: compared to the US, the Dutch political spectrum (like most of Western Europe) is shifted somewhat towards the left. Traditionally, there have been 3 major parties that score very high in the elections and governments almost always consist of at least 2 of them. The VVD (Peoples Party for Freedom and Democracy - Though party names don't necessarily reflect agendas anymore), mentioned earlier, is a somewhat conservative right-wing party. The US equivalent would be the republican party, but without the far-right, christian fundies, tea party, etc... VVD used to be more progressive, but in recent years they've moved away from that. Then there's the CDA (Christian Democrats). As expected, they're pretty conservative and on socio-economic issues they're moderately right-wing (less than VVD). And the third large party is the PvdA (Labour Party). Not surprisingly, a left-wing party, mildly progressive.

Other parties that play a role are the PVV (Party for Freedom), led by Geert Wilders (some of you may know him), a populist right-wing anti-immigration, anti-Europe party. SP (Socialist Party), more conservative and left-wing than PvdA. D66 (Liberal Democrats), primarily progressive/liberal, fairly centrist on socio-economic issues.

The last 2 years, our government consisted of VVD + CDA, with official support in parliament from PVV. Basically conservative right-wing parties. The PVV with its extremist views provokes strong reactions from everyone. Especially the more moderate CDA voters were not at all pleased by their parties support of a government supported by PVV. Consequently, the CDA got decimated in the elections this week. The PVV itself seems to be running out of populist steam as well, suffering a drop in votes almost as big as the CDA suffered.

In the polls, the battle seemed to be between VVD and SP, but in the last weeks of the campaign, much of the SP support shifted to the more experienced (at governing) PvdA (SP has long had the image of a radical protest-party and has never been in the government). With right-wing voters not wanting PvdA to come out on top, they strategically voted VVD, while left-wing voters went for PvdA to ensure that VVD wouldn't become the largest party. The end result was that VVD and PvdA ended up massively ahead of everything else (41 and 38 seats respectively, the 3rd biggest party has 15), with VVD edging out ahead.

So now it seems that we'll be having a government of both VVD and PvdA, where a third party may be added for stability (though no third party is needed for a majority). Compared to the last government, this is a major step forward. There is a (theoretical) possibility for a center-left government with PvdA / SP / D66 / CDA, while there is no possibility for a right-wing government like we had before, as every party other than VVD has explicitly excluded working together with the PVV. This fact gives the PvdA some bargaining points, despite them not being the largest party.

It's not an ideal solution for those of us that need additional support, but the doom scenario that is being sketched in this thread is highly unlikely, since the VVD can't carry out its entire agenda, the way it was able to (more or less) in the last 2 years.

Exactly what the VVD did in the elections.
"We used to be different, but now we're exactly what you want... what did you want again?"
"The social parties don't know have any experience and know nothing about money it's either us or the PvdA"

The VVD is the -most- extreme right party of the Netherlands. And they tricked people into thinking they were "more left" than they really are. So sure, the party now appears to have votes from "all sorts of people" but the -extreme- people are also still voting for this party and in charge like they've always been. That's the whole point. They played dirty tricks to misdirect people.

Main points of the VVD:
- Less government and lower taxes especially for businesses and "jobcreators". "Mansion-taxcut" for example for houses above a million. Or no tax on parents giving their kids a whole bunch of money or a house. While they just raised the VAT taxes on everything like food, fuel and daily stuff.
- No money spared for investments in infrastructure, such as airports and harbours so businesses can trade cheap internationally.
- Stop immigration for "-low chance/poor-" foreigners. Rich people are welcome and get lots of tax cuts.
- Especially harsh punishments for people "undeserving something" like welfare "cheaters" or crackers/squatters in buildings that have been empty for years.
- Harsher punishments for criminals in general too.
- "Streamlining" education. So far they turned study aid all into loans instead of gifts, and added HARSH financial penalties on for example taking 5 years instead of 4 to finish your study.
- "Streamlining" healthcare. So far that has meant "getting them lazy handicapped people to work asap", as clearly "they are -the- drain on dutch society".
- European Union vision that needs to be aimed at trade and the banking world, thus in favour of "injecting" money into banks that "need it" such as the THREE yes THREE bailouts for Greece so far and lowering taxes for banks.

They were also responsible for turning dutch healthcare from a % tax to a flat amount. Making everyone in the Netherlands pay 100-150 euro a month. (For me that's 25% of my money, while of course it's PEANUTS (1%) for someone earning 100K a year, while we used to both pay 7-10%ish.)

They want to go back over a century into the past, they must remember that this past also included propaganda of the deed.
