Anybody out there into prog? It's probably one of the least fashionable genres of music out there, so it's very hard to find others who are interested in it. Personally I love the hell out of it, the bombasity, the odd time signatures, intricate complex melodies, bizarre keys and modes, unique instrumentation. there's just so much to love and so much to discover with this music that I haven't found in any other genre (except maybe jazz and technical death metal).

For the uninitiated prog sounds like this. Here's one of the poppier/more accessible tracks:

And here's one of the more complex, epic, symphonic ones:

And this is what both of those tracks probably sound like to the untrained ear:

I like Yes quite a bit. People considered Yes the most pretentious of prog rock bands, but I like them, I like them better than Pink Floyd by a large margin.

^ Yes are amazing <3. One of my all time favorites. I used to own all their concert DVD's, they were one of the best live acts for a time.

"Close to the Edge" is pretty much the standard all other epics are judged by.

This guy is the best guitarist in the world. How can I say that? Well, he can shred like Steve Vail and Yngvie Malmsteen, but he does something I've never seen anyone do - play his guitar like a piano. On top of that, he sings lead while playing that way. Impressive.

Progressive rock is by far my favorite genre. My music collection includes Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Rush, Queensrÿche, Dream Theater, Tool, Porcupine Tree (and Steven Wilson's solo work), The Mars Volta, Riverside and Lunatic Soul, as well as Muse and TesseracT (who sound vastly different, but both of whom could at least be said to have noticeable progressive influences). Of those, I listen to Porcupine Tree the most.

Would the Moody Blues be "prog" too? Or are they too old and liked by too many women? Some recent concerts of theirs are a "family affair" where usually the mother brings the kids along. I always like them but have been embarrassed.

Oh, and I love Queen and Rush too!

Moody Blues are part of what they refer to as "Proto-Prog" (other bands in this category would include The Nice and Procol Harum,)They established a lot of elements that would make up what prog is today before In The Court Of The Crimson King came out and truly defined the genre.

What do you mean liked by too many women??? How is that a disqualification?? I very much love prog-rock and I'm a woman.

I saw the Moody Blues at an outdoor venue in the '90s and they were upstaged by an enourmous moth that was drawn to their lights.

King Crimson and Yes are two of my all-time favorites. Bill Bruford is a major influence on my attempts at drumming. Here's something fun.

Not a disqualification at all. I just notice the different "demographics" of the concerts I have been to (that must be an asperger trait?). For example I went to Roger Waters and saw more men than women and no kids. Same with a Boston concert, a lot of young men there too. But I go to several Moody Blues concerts over 30 years and what do I find - women with their husbands but they also bring their kids, mostly tweens and older. Turns out the mother likes them and gets the kids involved. With someone like a Neil Diamond or even a Josh Groban I did not see that many kids. It helps that a MB ticket is usually not as expensive as someone like a Bruce Springsteen, so they can afford to bring the family. One time I saw the moodies when they opened the roof of the Pittsburgh Civic Arena when they did not do that often. Now the arena is totally gone so people can never have that experience again.

P.S. Why this remarkable band is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is something I will never figure out. Finally, they nominate Rush. Meanwhile of the bands they nominate - who the F are The Meters?

I love progressive rock, in particular progressive folk, but also listen to neo-prog, symphonic prog, heavy prog and prog metal.

One guy I kind of like is Scott Walker, but his music is more 'Experimental Rock'. His 2006 album 'The Drift' is particularly good.

Your a woman with ASD, by definition this makes you a minority. There's a 4-1 ratio whether or not that is 1 to 1 with autism in general is unknown, however to think it's sexist to say that men are more obsessive, and more likely to enjoy music that is likable to aspies is not a stretch.

I donno if I like prog I guess I'd call it alternative prog that I like.

Pinkfloyd, led zep, radiohead, rhcp, tool, queens of the stone age etc is all good.

I find that claim unlikely.
