Here is the latest political own goal in the back of the Tory net.

I think at this stage it doesn't matter what Osbourne does. Rightly or wrongly, he's immensely unpopular. I think Cameron might be hoping Osbourne can take the public outrage over the cuts, then he'll sack him shortly before the next election, appoint Clarke chancellor, and slightly change fiscal policy. Osbourne would probably lose his career (though doubtless Cameron would try and fob him off with a place in the Lords), but it might save the Conservatives.

whatever Cameron does this will (hopefully) damage the image of the Conservative party.

The sooner we get these hooray henries out of office the better.

Don't worry, the Conservative party is haemorrhaging votes to UKIP at the moment and I wouldn't be surprised if Cameron's utter foolishness and unwillingness to listen to his own voters on a variety of issues will be the Conservatives' downfall in a few years time. As for the three main political parties, I couldn't give a damn about any of them. They're nearly identical when you get down to it.

If one wants to register a protest, UKIP is the place for anti-EU people, liberals, libertarians, conservatives and patriotic Labour types. The Greens seem to be able to take care of the eco-socialists, the environmentalists, and those on the student / Guardianista / far-left.

Spoken like a professional spin doctor. This particular instance is hardly likely to have defectors scuttling to the right wing, much less to UKIP. Lets face it, UKIP are the only party trying to out-tory the tories. This sort of self aggrandising behaviour is hardly beyond their pompous, Euro-sceptic, Etonian attitude remit either.
