I'm going to avoid it, due to what I hear about the vicious nature of the DRM software, and the fact it requires too much resources to run (I mean 1GB RAM? I thought the idea of having bigger RAM was to be able to do more tasks at the same time, and be able to play more intensive video games; not run more useless eye candy and components that probably are not needed for general functionality, from the OS ).

In fact I'm using Ubuntu right now, because I figure I should explore other Operating Systems and avoid Vista entirely (if possible) in the near future.

Will probably get it within 6 months once it's been through some serious bug fixing and I finally settle on spec for new PC build. Would get Vista mainly for DX10, and enhanced searching. No doubt dual-booting with SuSE, Ubuntu or something like that.

Here's the deal. I'm saving up money right now for a new computer. Mine is fried, for what reason I don't know. When new computers go on sale with Vista pre-installed, will they be a bit more expensive? I've been told Vista itself will cost quite a bit.

The numbers I've seen for US prices range from $199 - $399 for the whole thing and $99 - $259 for the upgrade price. Depends on which version of Vista you go for - there's 5 different versions.

I'd be very surprised if getting it preinstalled on new system didn't work out cheaper than buying it separately and building your own machine. I'm still building my own system though because I like to ensure that every major component is of my own choosing and it's just fun thing to do. Another reason I plan to wait upto 6 months for Vista is that it's newness is bound to contribute to the hefty price tag.

Hmmm, just seen UK prices, think I'm gonna barf. MS can go f* itself if they think I'm paying £370 ($716!! !) for Ultimate Edition or £290 for Business Edition. Monopolies suck. :(

I'd class their 90% market share as being pretty close to a monopoly - they can charge whatever they want for their software it seems.

Many people are put off Tiger/Leopard because the lack of games and the price of Apple's hardware. However, this Bootcamp thing and Cedega for Linux look quite interesting - would be curious to know what kind of performance hit there is.

I had the beta version of vista - and what a bloody disaster! I hated the security features which made it difficult to use - and the severe memory hogging (I've got 1gb memory) The vista transformation is the bells and whistles without the crap - its great - and free!

Just read that the Vista version of Word totally sucks ! !! ! They've totally revised the toolbar, and changed the names of all the usual commands. Yuck-oh ! !

I recently applied for a job as Senior IT Trainer, and I dread the thought of teaching this crap-ola ! !!
