SPOLIER ALERT

I know you have to suspend your disbelief when you watch James Bond films, but being a pedant, I just thought Skyfall was ridiculous. If the bad guy wanted to kill M, and if he could cause an explosion in the MI6 building just using his computer hacking skills, surely he could have killed M at the start and saved a whole lot of trouble. Right near the start, Bond managed to break into M's house on his own, so why did the bad guy need a whole army of mercenaries to kill her? What was the point of letting himself get caught just so he could escape? The human aspect of the story did not make up for all this as far as I was concerned. (M is Bond's mother figure. Big deal.)

Well his ultimate intention was to kill M (and himself). He had planned it so she would not be killed in the explosion, that she would be forced to witness it. Since he believed that she had betrayed him when she traded his life for the lives of other agents, leaving him to die. Hence the whole 'Think On Your Sins' popping up on her computer, and then later forcing her to watch the death of one of the undercover agents he outed.

It was less about just killing her, and more about making her suffer.

This is one of the better 007 movies right now.

Some people liked it better than Casino Royale. I was not one of them. I think I even liked Quantum of Solace more than Skyfall, but that is not a popular opinion, I happened to like QoS more than most people did.

Its still one of the better Bond movies, but it has its flaws.

I've only seen the Craig films and half of Golden Eye (which was great, but we were watching it on the last day of school and couldn't finish it). I hated Quantum of Solace but I loved Casino Royale and Skyfall, but out of the three I think Royale was just a LITTLE better than Skyfall, but Skyfall was still awesome, too.

OK, here is my input, in one sentence.

Sam Mendes manages to bring the same kind of conceptual mastery to James Bond that Christopher Nolan managed to do with Batman.

That is my high praise.

Exactly what I thought! It's not without its faults (like Nolan's movies too), but I still thoroughly enjoyed it.

I also have to completely disagree with the criticisms of Silva. In my opinion he's one of the best Bond villains ever! Bardem was brilliant, perhaps lacking a bit of character development and screen time, but that's the scripts fault.

Also, when the final scene with Moneypenny and M happened I nearly died I was so excited. They couldn't have possibly ended the movie any better than that. I'm curious what will happen with Vauxhall Cross though. Will they dump it in the next movie? A bit odd considering it's still the real world MI6 HQ.

I thought it was a great film. You never knew what to expect or who you could trust. It's definitely not the best Bond film, but it's up there.

Great film :D That great, I seen it twice!
The first time the 35mm digital projector packed in, so I got a free upgrade to an IMAX screening.
The second time, I treated myself to the most expensive ticket in the cinema ( the ticket gives access to great seating, a VIP bar plus unlimited soft drinks and popcorn) and a martini to drink while watching it. 8)

Saw it for a second time on Sunday afternoon, definitely better the second time around. Daniel Craig is still bad-ass, Javier Bardem is still scene-stealing and Berenice Marlohe is still smokin' 8)

No stirred as I prefer gin based martinis and shaking makes gin have a bitter taste.

I loved it when he was dressed as a Metropolitan Police officer and he waded into that room and started shooting people.

Also, are you based in Rossendale? That's not far from me.

Bardem was, of course, born in Gran Canaria, in the Canary Islands. I believe his character actually makes a reference to Bardem's real-life upbringing in the film where he traps Bond and keeps him on an island (which is a real-life island off the coast of Japan by the way).

I moved house recently, just across the way to Blackburn. Had to move up North for family reasons.

But yeah, Javier verged on flamboyant at times, especially during the interrogation scene, but he was the best Bond villain since Sean Bean in Goldeneye.
