Years ago I became aware I leaned toward black pen on white paper to do a basic design based on the idea that color could later be added (paint by numbers - so to speak). I was aware of black and white photographs vs color photographs. Today I prefer color photographs but apparently there seems to be a part of me which tends to think (almost literally) in black and white. It took me many years to appreciate shades of color and to appreciate a little the over 400 different shades of color present in the animation movie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. I do think that there is a kind of mechanism in the human brain/mind which tends to add things up like on a scale and when a certain number is reached like 51/100, the balance scale/seesaw tips.
Patriotism is the cause of most war and genocide.
Its completely useless except to divide humanity into exclusive tribes based on false pride and prejudice and inevitably leads to conflict as the various tribes seek unnecessary feelings of superiority over each other.
I dont belong to any country Im a citizen of earth that is the world I am proud of (on the rare occasions when the human race isnt being a bunch of complete ret*ds) so your pride over living within certain specific imaginary lines on a map looks rather silly to me.
On my end, here's where I wonder if I'm even autistic/asperger's becuase my thinking couldn't be any more gray.
I don't consider myself to be black and white because if I was, I would never find any gray areas or make any acceptions like I did about child porn, only pedophiles would download it and have it on their computer but the gray area I see about it is, if some virus program got onto someone's computer and it downloaded the child porn, or someone used their IP and went into child porn sites, or they let someone use their computer and that person was dumb enough to download child porn onto their computer and leave it there. Now if I was black and white, I would not have found these gray areas for when it doesn't make someone a pedo for having child porn on their computer.
While everyone has things about themselves that is black and white, I don't deny there is black and white about me. I have noticed things are either this or either that. There is like no in between. I tend to get extreme. It's either I do this, or I don't. I even have some opinions that are black and white but so does everyone. Is there any gray for when it's acceptable to molest a child? No. Everyone is black and white there unless you're a sicko.
I think this thread was more about behaving in extremes rather than black and white thinking???
I find I have this all or nothing kind of habit and I think that that's because I can only really focus on one thing at a time so if I'm focussing on cooking then I'll eat really well but if I'm focussing on working then I'll just eat whatever. I can't easily switch from one activity to the next or multitask. I think that's where my extremes of behaviour come from anyway.
I think black and white thinking is another issue.
When I first read this, I thought you meant that when you imagine pictures in your head they are in black and white.
I'm the same way, I go weeks without listening to music and then I'll listen to the same CD over and over all day for several days, then do the same with another CD, etc. With food, too.
As far as thinking, I do tend to see things in clear and straightforward terms. Like I don't understand why someone would belong to a religion and then disagree with a bunch of tenets of the religion. Makes no sense to me at all. Nobody's forcing them to stay, so why don't they just leave? Maybe it has something to do with taking things literally.
I can handle ambiguity to a certain extent, but prefer clarity and if something appears to be clearly stated then I take it face value.
