I have been wondering this:

When somebody relocates to or from Hawaii, how do they get their belongings (especially their cars) to wherever they're headed.

Freighter cargo. A shipping consolidator puts in in a crate, then into a cargo shipping container with other people's stuff also in crates and then it gets put on a freighter which then takes it to Hawaii.

Looking at colleges in Hawaii, Tex? I'd say U-Haul to California then do what julieme suggested...

About how much would it cost?

Also, this could theoretically apply to Alaska, not just Hawaii.

Cost for shipping a car from a California port to Hawaii is about 950-1000.

My Neice lives in Maui -- where I'm spending New years. My brother lives in Anchorage AK where I avoid visits in the winter.

That sounds reasonable--and more secure, as opposed to shipping from Houston and having to go through the Panama Canal.
