It's a 1998 thriller film starring Bruce Willis, Alec Baldwin, and Miko Hughes. The story concerns an 9 year-old autistic boy named Simon Lynch, played by Hughes, who unintentionally cracks a government supercode dubbed "Mercury" after finding it in a puzzle book (Don't ask.). Alec Baldwin's character, Kudrow, is a ruthless NSA official who tries to have little Simon whacked out of fear that the boy could be a threat to national security (Don't ask.). Simon manages to escape from the assassins, but his parents are dead, leaving him in the care of an FBI agent, Bruce Willis, who plays his usual down-in-the-dumps hero (as seen in Die Hard, The Fifth Element, The Last Boy Scout, The Sixth Sense, and so on.) The film is a little farfetched in terms of story plausibility, and it may be more than a little cliched, but overall, it is well-made and keeps you interested. Mercury Rising shines, however, not in the action or suspense department, but with the chemistry between Hughes and Willis. They really get along well. Also, Hughes performance is at the same time both emotionally involving and realistic; in the DVD extras, it turns out that Hughes hung out with actual autistic children under the supervision of a top pediatric psychiatrist, and it shows on film. Sometimes, you'd swear HE was the real hero of the movie, almost eclipsing the Bruce Willis character in terms of depth!
