Okay, this is a bit random, all or nothing. I read a bit through the forum before making this account and I decided to give it a go. I come to autism spectrum conditions (how I call them) from a personal but also professional perspective. Bit of a disclaimer:

I am not professionally diagnosed although self-diagnosed. I am not planning on getting an official diagnosis. I don't like the concept of diagnoses much. For a while I liked the idea of belonging to this "Aspie" group that is so different from the NT group. But I realized that there is no point in dividing that strictly between "us" and "them" and anyways I am not even diagnosed, so am I allowed to put myself into one category? I realize (from looking through forum posts) that some of you are very attached to the Aspie label and are not going to like my viewpoint. That is fine. I also realize the irony of signing up to a community like this, but hey - I may not put the Aspie label on myself, that doesn't mean i don't share a whole lot of the issues brought up here.

About myself then: I am 23, I live in the UK and I am a student. I am mainly here to get in contact with people similar to me and to find some friends (yeah, the shock and horror of writing that phrase: "find some friends" - Do I have any? Sure I have acquaintances, but I don't think I even know what friendship means - so I can't tell.).

I am not reluctant to give more information, but not really sure what else people would want to know. I may post in that "icebreaker" sticky thread and give some more concrete information, so check that out if you want to know. :)

I am happy to take questions including questions on the labeling/diagnosis point I made.

Welcome to Wrong Planet!

You don't need a diagnosis to use some of the great advice you can find on this forum.

Cannot pronounce? Please, don't underestimate us East Europeans. We can pronounce any string of consonants. Obviously dvvv is pronounced [dvvv]. Anyways, welcome to WP. You don't have to be diagnosed, and there are several NT members in these forums.
