Since a child I had trouble interacting with other people and my own company was the best comfort to me, I could not hurt myself or bully myself and talked myself through many situations. This however did bring unwanted attention in the form of bullying and this made me retreat further into myself, I am highly sensitive and I live in a world of my own most of the time. I am an author and because of that I do not see any of the above as a problem to me and even now as an adult I prefer my own company. My friends are few but carefully selected and loyal, my imagination is amazing and I can transport myself into the place where by writing is based. I do get incredibly tired a lot but equally I do have a lot of energy when the tiredness does not take over. My privacy and my own company are valuable to me which causes problems with my husband as he says I don't include him in things, truth is I don't always feel the need to talk to others about what I do I just evolve in my own world. Is this normal? When I do socialise I am always chatty and get along well, I can stand and talk in front of a room full of people about my subject matter without a problem and I always captivate my audience. I like to come out of my shell but I also like people to respect that I have to control when I go back in too. I do suffer from severe OCD and have done since a child which is anxiety driven.

There's no way to be sure about it over the internet, but you might get a clearer idea from taking tests such as the Autism spectrum Quotient. There's a thread with other tests at the top of "General Autism Discussion".
