Hi there.

I'm the Mum of an 11 year old boy who, amongst his brilliance, also has Aspergers.

Although we mostly cope, I have been searching for a community to belong to: to have other parents and people with Aspergers to bounce ideas off.

We live in tourist mecca: Cairns on the Great Barrier Reef. Although it is a gorgeous place to live, the volume of visitors trigger my son like nothing I have ever seen.

I am looking forward to forming friendships, learning, sharing and surviving with you all.

Hello there imaginif. Welcome to WrongPlanet. Hope you like it here.

I bet living in a place where so many people come to visit must be very stressful for him. Thankfully, we don't have that so much in Lancashire though plenty of people come to visit the Valley.

Wow - thanks lkonantz and Tequila.
Your speedy welcomes sure made for an excellent introduction to the site.
I've just been having a look around and I am very glad I found my way here. I found the site through an aspergers search and wanting to link new material to my blog. I like this site so much I think I will add it as a permanent link. Is that allowed??
You both take care and thank you for your warm welcomes.

Thanks Tim from Texas. I LOVE your signature. It made me laugh out loud. I can't wait to share it with my son. This community is going to be so good for him. He is going to be completely normal and I'll be the one on the outer...about time too I say!

Hello, from a fellow Australian. Though I'm on the other side.

My fiance and I attend a support group for parents of Aspergers kids once a month. We don't have kids, we go to give a perspective of what it's like to be Aspie (or in my case, HFA). We get asked lots of questions! Are there any such groups like this in your area?

I hope you enjoy the atmosphere on WP. :)

One Winger and Renaeden, thank you. I am overwhelmed at the welcome I have received here. It is absolutely wonderful. You guys are just the best.

Renaeden there is a support group in my area but we haven't yet made it along. My work hours have always got in the way. This year I'm dropping to part time work so I'll be free to attend the support groups.

I don't know if any adult ASD's attend the support group but what a great idea. I know a couple of brilliant ASD adults and I may just suggest to them that they attend to give another perspective. I love talking to them about how they've coped, what would have made it better for them as kids, etc.

At the moment I can't get enough learning about Aspergers. Our last visit to the clinic suggested that we've got it as good as it's going to get. I nearly cried! I want the best for my son and I'm not prepared to settle for less. At school he had a really hard time with his peers and many well meaning adults just think he's a naughty little boy that needs a good smack.

I recently watched Mozart and the Whale. It was thought provoking in terms of my sons future and stability.

If I can get him a job with microsoft he'd be in his element!
