Would it make you feel better if I told you that the people in charge of the security of the networks where I work would not be known for their intelligence? I am not saying they are stupid or anything, but I would estimate their intelligence to be within the average range, not far above it. You may not be able to work in some "top company" some where, at least not at first until you have a proven track record, but there are lots of smaller companies out there, who can't afford to pay top dollar, who would be happy to get someone who has passed their certification course.
