Were your interests different when you were younger?
At the age of 14 and a half, I am really interested in History.
Whereas when I was eleven, I was obsessed with the 2005 film Robots. I used to make up stories about the leading character Rodney Copperbottom in my head and I was just mad about it all.
But now I will often be seen researching History on the internet.
I think my interests have changed and matured as I've got older, has anyone else found that?
I've went through many many different interests over the years. My fascination with words was always there, from childhood till now. Same thing for playing music and songwriting. Was doing that as a kid and still doing it now. I've went through periods where my interests changed from capital punishment to torture to black crows to bicycle construction to first person shooter games to foreign films to guitar building to ballet to gymnastics. I guess some I've outgrown (ballet, gymnastics) and some have stuck around.

My interests were different, yes. I liked reading Mary-Kate and Ashley's "The Adventures of Mary-Kate and Ashley's" book series. I owned the book from their Two of a Kind series, "How to Flunk your First Date, and the book from their Sweet Sixteen series, "Never Been Kissed." I liked their movies, "When in Rome and "Our Lips Are Sealed" (still do to this very day). I liked watching shows on TV such as Rescue 911, Doug, the original Rugrats (without the new characters), Salute Your Shorts, Wienerville, Are You Afraid of the Dark, The Secret World of Alex Mack, Hey Dude, The Adventures of Pete and Pete, Clarissa Explains it All, Sailor Moon (Sailor Mars was HOT! HOT! HOT!), Daria, and a lot of others.
I also liked the game shows like "Wild and Crazy Kids, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Global Guts, Double Dare, Debt, Supermarket Sweep, and others.

Well, my interests have always revolved around fictional characters, so that's never changed.
But what has changed is the type of fiction I enjoy. When I was really young, I obsessed over American animation, like Beetlejuice and Balto. Between the ages of 8 - 18, I was obsessed with anime, to the point that I refused to watch anything else. From the age of 19 to the present, I have been obsessed with live-action movies as well as cute toy brands such as So So Happy.
Yeah. When I was little I had tons of interests and they were more narrow. I used to be obssessed about clouds around 8. I had a little book on different types and everyday I would sit outside with my book and identify all the clouds I saw to myself and whoever was around me. (Look mom, it's a nimbostratus!) I was also obsessed with species of rodents, tornadoes, different U.S. states, TV commercials, astral projection, the supernatural, and UFOs all before the age of 12.
Nowadays my main interests are the 1700s-1820s, fashion throughout the ages, writing, mental illness, and classical music. The one interest I've maintained since childhood is anything science related.
I've had many different interests that have changed over the course of time. On the other hand, I've had three interests that are well known on WP since I was 9.
Computers which evolved into the Internet, The Olympics mainly Summer and The Kinks. I've almost regretted saying that I like The Olympics when I came back to WP full time after watching the events in London on TV. However that special interest is a main part of my personality along with The Kinks and the Internet.

I can see why you like the Kinks. I must admit that the Kinks are brilliant, I love their songs You Really Got Me and Lola.
I sometimes used wish I lived in the 1960s so I could listen to people such as the Kinks, the Beatles, Mamas and Papas and more.
My main interests when I was younger were robotic toys and anything life-science related. The robotic toys I had varied from year to year. I had furbies, robo-chi pets, micropets, neopets, and idogs from ages 6-14. I couldn't just get one toy either, instead I would spend all my money by purchasing tons of the same toy in different colors. I always wanted one of these things called an i cybie, which was a robotic dog that I could teach tricks. Part of me still would buy one just because they are cool looking. When other kids would read stuff like Junie B Jones and the Magic Tree House, all I would read were books about nature. I would check out every book in the school library that related to information about various animals. I also liked reading books about animal and human anatomy and physiology. I was a weird kid. The picture below is the i cybie I wanted.
Well as a young child I collected bank forms (paying in slips, withdrawal slips etc) from barclays, lloyds, TSB and so on which seemed to make me a little different to other little girls.
I also liked to line up my brothers match box toy cars rather than play with dolls. I used to call it playing traffic jams (traffic jams...cars in a line going nowhere...)
In my teens I also had a fascination with museums...does not sound unusual but you would be surprised how hard it was to find other young teenage girls who were also interested in such things. I remember the torture of being made to go out with groups of girls where I had to go shopping for make up and talk about boys all day. As soon as I saw a museum I would escape by disappearing into it! I have not acquired or been out with groups of girly friends since! Actually any friends I have made since those days have always been male.
Men were always into cool stuff like science and computer games and the boys had all the cool toys like the hornby train set I always wanted but never got because I got janie the talking doll instead. Argh!
Plus some men I have met have been really funny.
I don't have anything against girls as such, I just had/have a preference for socialising with boys or men instead. I particularly like nerdy men as they have heads full of fascinating information.
These days though that seems to be dying out in favour of catching a match and going down the pub so fascinating conversation about obscure, unusual or scientific subjects is hard to find now. *sighs*
Anyone around here into the palaeolithic in relation to human evolution and the paleo or primal diet? I have not read all of it yet but I got a great book on it the other day called 'Primal Body, Primal Mind: Beyond the Paleo diet for longer life and total health'. It has some fascinating chapters on how diet can affect the human brain.
It's a no wonder I have trouble finding people to talk to with the stuff I read huh? Try talking about such things on a typical night out with people in general. You get stared at like you just landed in from mars or something.
I talk to myself a lot instead these days!
