How do you train your hand to not pick as hard on guitar? I get a strong tone, but it can cause carpal tunnel later on in life. Need help on not picking as hard.

I always had the opposite problem. Good thing I took up keyboards instead

Try picking, only with your wrist or buy some extremely light picks. Try strumming chords, and not playing single note runs. That might break your habit. Although, in heavier music genres, being a "heavy hitter," is a good quality.

I am a heavy hitter on bass. Guitar needs less aggression than that. I am currently using heavy gauge picks though, so I will try your idea.
