Here's a question for you to ponder on:

Can a bout of severe (yet acute) mental illness worsen a pre-existing Asperger's Syndrome?

Hmm you asked a serious question.. we cant have that!

INTP

My hubbie is weird. Is he retar^H^H^ aspie?

Your Aspie score: 199 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 1 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie!

What was the question again? And can you tell I'm bored?

Perhaps. I was just wondering about the brain chemistry.

I've heard of seizures (temporal lobe epilepsy) causing AS (and this is not medical hype - it was in a book written by an AS).

SteelMaiden, I think you'd first need to define "mental illness". That's inordinately broad and some may even consider Aspergers in that category.

As for the point of the question, by and large, anything that puts stress on the system is bound to increase our autisticness.

The same could be said of most "disorders". Schizophrenia, Bipolar, etc. Stressors tend to worsen them.

You're right - but even when the WHO tried to define "mental illness", I think they failed. I won't even attempt myself, even though I've experienced it.

But stress does make it worse.

Stress can also cause Coronary Heart Disease *is worried about her arrythmias*.

I guess that it depends on the individual.
