Earning money from a blog

I started a blog, but I can't sign up for Google ads, I keep getting kicked back as "insufficient content". I figure that's their way of protecting themselves from people who start spam blogs and then try to glom onto Google ads. My question is, how many blog posts do I have to make before I can get approved for Google ads?
