I want to become almost nocturnal.
During the day the sky is bright. Kids play, shout and scream at each other on the small green in front of my house. The next door neighbours make noise. The other people in my supported housing make noise / disturb me. People text me. The dual carriageway near my house also makes noise.
During the night the sky is dark. No kids are out. The next door neighbours are asleep. The other people in my house are asleep. Nobody texts me. The dual carriageway is rather quiet.
I want to stay up until 02:00 or 03:00 every night while I am not at university and revising for exams, and get up at 09:00. When I go back to university, I will go to bed at 00:00.
I cannot concentrate well during the day. But once the silence of the night comes, I become productive.
Does anyone else have this problem?
Is anyone else partially nocturnal? I am going to try my first late night tonight. I take daily sedating medication so will need to change the timings of that.
I have to close my curtains and wear ear defenders in my bedroom during the day. Drives me more mad than I already am.

Yeah I'm like that and I have done it. I have worked a variety of night shift jobs. I have worked sometimes until 7am-9am. One of my favorite past times was to eat at an all night diner at 3am.
I do think I eventually bumped into the equivalent of Seasonal Affective Disorder though as well as job burnout. Also, while staying up late I was munching on junkfood and having to much Mountain Dew. So maybe I was feeling fatigued because of a bad diet.
Right now I have evening college classes and I do stay up until 3am and regularly sleep until 10am. I eat better now and I can relate to what you say about doing things at night because it's quiet with less distractions.

I can't really stay up that late even though I don't have a bed time, because I live in a boarding house and I have the busiest school routine ever.
But when I go home for the holidays I usually stay awake till 7 in the morning and wake up at around 2 or 3.
I like it when I'm the only person awake at night and everyone's asleep.
It feels like I'm the only person alive on earth.
Unfortunately my parents get eggy about me "sleeping too much" so I have to wake up by 3 and be awake at both night and day.

Maiden, I used to be nocturnal when I was younger, with one twist: When I didn't have to be at work or school, which wasn't very often, my tendency was to go to bed an hour later each day; it is what my body naturally wanted to do. I found it very difficult to fight this tendency, and getting up in the morning was usually the hardest thing I would do all day. I used to dread getting up in the morning whereas now I love it.
Now though, I'm definitely an early riser--something that has been coming on for about ten years. Now, I go to sleep at eleven pm, and wake up every morning between 5:30 and 6:00, even when I don't have to work.
I'm not sure if this change is a result of biology or my circumstances. When I was young, I lived in a big city where plenty was always going on. Now I live on a big place in the country far removed from society, where the only the wild life have a night life.
What I'm getting at is that your patterns may eventually change too.
I guess I'm a nightbird, too. I preferred working in the evening and night because daytime in a hospital/nursing home is sheer madness. I've been out of work for a while but I still stay up till around 2/3 in the morning. On those rare nights when I'm in the middle of writing a short story, I usually just stay up until it's complete, sometimes till 6/7 in the morning. It does feel kind of weird to go to sleep when everyone else is waking up, like being the vampire of the block or something.

My medications sedate me so if I take them too early, I can sleep 22:30 - 08:30. But if I take my meds very late and drink two cups of strong tea (I don't like coffee), I can sleep 01:30 - 08:30.
Tonight I will try 02:00 - 09:00.
I won't do this every night, just when it is ok for me to wake up later the next day.
It's 20:10 now and the kids outside are still making so much noise! I wish I could shoot them all down (joke).

I'm actually fully nocturnal but I can't get anything done at night that I need to get done, so I'm often forced back into the daytime noise.
I also have concentration issues during the day, and often I have headaches when on a day schedule.
Right now I usually stay up till about 2 or 3 am and the silence after about 11 is awesome.

I pretty much do what you described. Night time is quiet and I can actually relax, where I live is constantly noisy during the day and there are so many distractions. It may ultimately not actually be helpful for me because it means I spend very little time with other people and I actually like to socialise with certain people however I'm usually awake when others are asleep.
I am very fortunate to be able to work a nursing shift that is 1900-0700. I tend to keep this schedule even on my days off, except when I need to attend to some daytime appointments and whatnot. My husband is a teacher so he takes the kids (youngest is 14) to school with him so that I can sleep during the day while they are gone.
But nursing school was horrible because it was 4 yrs of HAVING to be a day person (no classes at 3am, unfortunately). On my days off I sleep next to my husband either reading or watching a movie with headphones.

I think I have always been nocturnal. I have worked the night shift at a convenience store for close to 7 years, and I have never felt so comfortable with a job than I do with this one. I work either 9 PM to 5 AM or sometimes 10-5 or 10-6. I have worked a few day shifts there (not my choice), and it just didn't feel right. In the past, whenever I worked a job that required me to wake up early in the morning, it was very very difficult.
During the day, I cover the window in my apartment with black trash bags to make it dark, and I sleep very well. I usually sleep from about 11 AM to 6 PM on my work days... i go to sleep a little later on my days off, but I try to keep the same sleep pattern every day.
