A speech therapist is not qualified to make a diagnosis, in Australia, anyway.
I am surprised this therapist has been so flippant. If he does have Aspergers/HFA then in all likelihood, diagnosis is extremely important as it opens doors to additional assistance and therapies.
If you have concerns about Sam's development then I would advise an assessment by a developmental paediatrician that specialises in ASD.
