:help:

Hello all. I am in my forties and just found out today that it is likely that I am an "Aspie". I have always been socially awkward and find it sooo difficult to small talk. I am always saying the wrong thing and have lost many friends because I have upset them so much by a comment or something that I have said. I still to this day don't think I have ever said anything that is inappropriate, but I would be the minority. I would really like to find like minded people with whom I can talk and who will accept me as is. I consider myself lonely.

I do have to admit that realizing that I probably have AS is almost a relief because it explains so much.

Thanks for listening and hope to talk with some of you soon...

Hi. Welcome to Wrong Planet. It's good you're aware of your limitations when dealing with people. I didn't know for years I was alienating them. Little did I know I have the worst social skills possible. Discovering I'm an aspie opened my eyes to that fact, though. It helped explained a lot of things and also showed there were others like me. Yeah, I'm alone every day, that's why I log on to WP. It's been a good help to connect to others and help me pass the time.

Welcome aboard

It's a tough gig, finding out too late. Yes, knowing there's an explanation is good, but there's not a lot of satisfaction in that when you're out in the cold.

Welcome to WrongPlanet.

There are plenty of us here who first found out we were on the spectrum when we were in our forties or fifties or even older than that.

Welcome from me too! :)
I've recently discovered my husband might be an aspie, we are in our 60s now and it's very unlikely that he'll be diagnosed or even become aware of the possibility.
All the best.
