 yes, more like he used it as vehicle to express his radical post-60s take on medieval mysticism. He’s a one-off... he may even be guilty of literature... 8O

Edit: just had a mental image of a group of fourteen year old being forced to make sense of the plot of The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch by their English teacher!

^ haha! Ubik, yes one of my favourites: it’s survived several library purges when I’ve run out of space!
Yes, the relationship between his art, his mysticism and his drug experiences... all whirling into each other as if his life was a kaleidoscope of life at the edge of what the human mind can bear!
Compelling writer, haunting, sad and uplifting all at once.

Her name was Rose
meh

The Chain
the premise was exciting, but 3 things lowered my enjoyment a bit; too much "little girl" and "little boy". 12-13 year-olds are minors yes but not little children; too much high-flown ways of expressing themselves; and finally too much "I'm an awful person". It got annoying. Otherwise fine, although they did act extremely dumb at times, including giving out real names and other personal info, and not wearing masks.

The honeymoon, Tina Seskis
alright so far, but could be more sped up
edit: it was pretty boring until the last 20 pages. I never saw that solution coming, but over all not worth the read unfortunately

Into the Silence: The Great War, Mallory, and the Conquest of Everest, by Wade Davis.

I had no idea the horrors of the First World War. Whole generations of young men where wiped out on both sides under incredibly awful conditions. D-Day, Hiroshima as horrific as they were, don't hold a candle to the first Great War.

I started this book based on the climbing adventure and got way more than I bargained for.

New topic: I read a lot of SciFi when I was young and remember the author PKD, but don't remember reading any. So I will start with Ubik.

^ Good one to start with, the plot is less weirdly structured than many of his books.

New morning coffee book: The Dignity of Difference by Dr Jonathan Sacks.
Very different way of looking at the world to me, but I’m enjoying it so far (watched some of his talks on YouTube, so was expecting to be pleasurably challenged :D )

New morning coffee book: The Black Sheep by Honore de Balzac.
Been a while since I last read one of his works, had forgotten how fluid & witty his writing is in the hands of a good translator.
