Collected short stories of Philip k. Dick

Fyodor Dostoevsky - House of the Dead

I just finished one of the most amazing biographies I've ever read in my life (Samantha Ellis on Anne Brontë), and I'm so gobsmacked I can't read any other Brontëana while I decompress.

I'm going to read the first two chapters of each of these books and see which to choose as a diversion.

#1 The Woodlanders, Thomas Hardy (It's considered his finest, and his favourite).

#2 Adam Bede, George Eliot (I love her, but haven't read this).

#3 The Professor, Charlotte Brontë (This doesn't count as Brontëana since it's an actual novel).

I think I need a novel after such a great biography.

I think the only Hardy I've ever read is Tess. I'm reading Galdón to improve my Spanish and Mann to consolidate my German (haven't read a German novel through for nearly two years now).
