Why the hate against Country Music?

Funny you say that because technically speaking there is nothing primitive about the sounds in Rap or Rock, they are dependent on modern technology. The only primitive thing about them is they have roots in African rhythm music, though a lot of Rock has ditched those roots, and Rap is sort of it's own thing. Anyway, there is nothing in Rock that is more primitive than anything in Country. Country is a form of Folk music at art, which is regarded to be the most primitive form of music. Call Rock and Rap noisy or unruly, but technically they aren't primitive at all, not that there is anything wrong with being primitive.

Anyway, there is some Country I like, mainly stuff in the realm of Bluegrass or that's somehow been mixed with Rock, but for the most part I just don't find it very interesting, not stimulating in any way, I really don't like the sound of Southern Drawl, and modern crap like Taylor Swift is just plain awful.

I used to avoid country music, but sometime in 2012 I found some country songs and artists I like. Lady Antebellum, George Strait, The Band Perry, Keith Urban, Little Big Town, and others.

I also found I like some of the classic country from the 1950s and 1960s.

I agree that I don't like New Country but I like old country. New country is a little too bourgeois for me. In a sense, new country is anti-country.

i do not "hate" country music. i simply do not like it (the generic corn cob smoking, missing toothed alcoholic lamenting his sister leaving him type of stuff).
some country music songs are acceptable to me.
they are only acceptable to me because i found out they were in the "country/western" genre long after i had cemented my interest in those songs. if i had known in advance that they were country and western songs , i would have not have perceived them without a damping bias.


the song i am going to post is a song that trapped my mind in a serious way, and i later learned that it was in the "country & western" genre. that revelation did not diminish my admiration for the song.

incidentally, i met the singer "tina arena" on a few occasions when i was working in sound studios.
i remember her as a huge force, and i perceived that she was a genius. i normally relegate people's accomplishments to a strata of competency, but with her....she went completely over my head. i was swamped by her.

Once, I told someone that I didn't like new country music but liked old country music. This someone told me that old country was a little too redneck for them. I have precisely the opposite opinion. New country is way more redneck than old country. (Note that when I use the word "redneck", I mean it in a more pejorative sense of someone who is bourgeois, intolerant, uneducated, xenophobic, anti-intellectual, and too mainstream. I do not mean someone generally from the South, or a member of the working class, or a farmer, or anything like that. Those who are self-consciously redneck, or what I call "ironic rednecks" are not so bad in my opinion.)

New country is all about shoving the flag in my face and being fascist and the like. Old country sang about smoking dope, prison, murder, etc.

What is the Indonesian equivalent of a Southern Drawl? Would it be the dialect spoken in Sulawesi? lol

I guess I sounded a little intolerant myself just there. But some attitude toward intolerance must be maintained. Either tolerate or be indifferent to intolerance, which is little better than acquiescing to that very intolerance, or be intolerant of it, which albeit its own sort of intolerance, is to me the lesser evil.

i do not like country and western music mainly because it is wistful drivel.

Does Primus qualify as country to regular country music listeners? Awesome tunes, though.

after consideration, apart from the tina arena song i posted earlier (that i like) i also like another song that i have considered may be country and western. montana is a western state is it not?

Well Primus is usually considered a Funk Metal or Alternative Rock group. I know the original DGDtG was Bluegrass, and the guy behind it is Country Rock. Anyway, I love that song, it's the type of Country I like.

This, exactly this. The older stuff and a lot of alt-country (ie. No Depression music) is great, though. The 90's really was a golden age for alternative country music, just like it was for alternative rock and some of my favorite music of all time came from this period. Early Ryan Adams and Whiskeytown ... sigh.
