What type of therapist should I see?

I don't necessarily think that I have AS, but I've decided that I really need someone to talk to about my social awkwardness, trouble with finding dates, and generally feeling unattractive as a person. I'd talk to friends or family, but I just find it way too embarrassing to discuss it with them.
Is there a specific type of therapist/psychologist that I should be looking for that might specialize in this kind of stuff?

Just look for a therapist that deals with those issues.

I have the feeling you might find it's just going to be about going through a process of trial and error until you find someone you click with. I'm not sure it's about what types of degrees or specializations a professional has as much as it is about how comfortable you feel working with them.

As blueroses suggest, you might just ring a couple and ask them.

I'm seeing a social psychologist, and find her to be perfect for my social difficulties.

A lot of them can be a big waste of time and money. A lot of people who are attracted to the profession are nut cases to begin with.
