The key question is: "Whose truth?" The "truth" of a few disgruntled foreigners with too much time on their hands and a YouTube account, or ... ?

bush can't travel without being arrested.

i'm not horribly social, but I know dozens of americans and one award-winning investigative journal that believe bush's use of torture, which violates the geneva convention, and his lying the country into war with Iraq are war crimes. there was anticipation that Obama might charge bush, but Obama was loathe to inflame partisanship and let bush off.

In which alternative universe do you live? It sure isn't this one.

Dozens of Americans!! !! !! ! Wow! That proves your case. Hardly.

George W Bush is overseas as we discuss this. If you really think there is any possibility that he will be arrested for war crimes, you are extremely delusional. For all practical purposes, George W Bush is pretty much immune to being prosecuted on such ridiculous charges.

From http://www.dallasnews.com/news/george-w-bush-presidential-center/presidential-center-headlines/20130628-george-w.-bush-makes-return-trip-to-africa-arriving-in-zambia.ece:

Bush’s arrival Friday morning in Zambia with his wife, Laura, hasn’t yet splashed across newspaper front pages or TV screens. But that low profile probably won’t last, as even the prospect of Bush’s third visit in three years merited a story inside the Zambia Daily Mail.

The Bushes are in Livingstone — about 300 miles southwest of Lusaka, the capital — to promote Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon, their cancer-fighting initiative, and to help refurbish a clinic. They will then travel next week to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to host an African First Ladies Summit.

There was talk a couple of years ago about the possibility of George Bush being arrested in a visit to Switzerland. The reality is that there was ZERO chance that he would be arrested there. From http://www.theatlanticwire.com/politics/2011/02/george-w-bush-decides-not-to-go-to-switzerland-after-all/21211/:
Quote:
Would They Even Be Able to Arrest Him? Not according to a spokesman for the Swiss Foreign Ministry, who told reporters that Bush "would have immunity from prosecution for any alleged actions while in office," as the Post puts it. The Post also notes that similar gambits in the past didn't pan out so well: "The Center, and its European partners, earlier filed suits against former defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld and other Bush administration officials in Germany and France. Those cases were dismissed."

The only thing that George W Bush has to worry about on this issue is that the kooks out there who want to arrest him will try something stupid.

So Bush has immunity in Switzerland... why didn't Milosevic move there when he had the chance?

Slush, just out of curiosity, how would you define "Nazi"? And in your view are they really any worse than communists?

Fyi...

Fascism is a form of radical authoritarian nationalism that came to prominence in early 20th century Europe. Fascists seek to unify their nation through a totalitarian state that promotes the mass mobilization of the national community, relying on a vanguard party to initiate a revolution to organize the nation on fascist principles.

Fascist movements share certain common features, including the veneration of the state, a devotion to a strong leader, and an emphasis on ultra-nationalism and militarism. Fascism is also anathemic to liberal democracy, socialism, and communism,

Fascism views political violence, war, and imperialism as a means to achieve national rejuvenation, and asserts that stronger nations have the right to obtain land and resources by displacing weaker nations.

Nazism is a subset of Fascism that also incorporates biological racism and antisemitism.

Fnord, I can't tell you how refreshing it is to have somebody around here who does their homework. Having read Stanley Payne's seminal treatment of generic fascism, I would only add that one of the things that makes fascism unique is its perspective that violence isn't just a means to an end, but an end in itself. Fascism sacralizes violence the way liberalism does Political Correctness.

Having said this, I was curious as to how Slushy defines that term. My guess is that to him a fascist is anybody who is not a left-liberal, but I will let him speak for himself if he cares to.

That sounds like the United States right about now.

Raptor, just my thoughts on the matter: I take being called a "fascist" by people like Repent as a compliment. In their Orwellian world, a fascist is anybody who doesn't share their pathological liberal worldview, which I most certainly do not. By the same token, I'm sure he's convinced himself he's not hateful or intolerant as well.

we're moving toward corporate fascism, led by the koch brothers, karl rove, and fox news. karl rove says that, every few years, we should invade a middle eastern country. dick cheney's Halliburton will get richer and richer.

Facism - Two Cows Model:

You have two cows. The State takes both. You hail the Imperious Leader. One cow is pressed immediately into military service as an ox. You hail the Imperious Leader. The State hires you to take care of the other. You hail the Imperious Leader. You milk the cow and give the milk to the State, which sells it back to you. You hail the Imperious Leader. You give half of your milk to the two swine you have hidden in the attic, and they squeal excitedly. You sing victory songs about the Imperious Leader to drown out the squealing. You attend a rally to honor the 15th anniversary of the Imperious Leader's appendectomy. You hail the Imperious Leader. You come back and the swine are gone. The cow has a guilty look on her face. You hail the Imperious Leader. You wake up that night with a bright light in your eyes. They take you to a sausage factory where you are forced to watch the swine become breakfast. You hail the Imperious Leader. They take you back home. They give you another cow to milk. You hail the Imperious Leader.
