Wouldn't it be cool if Aspies went and formed an Aspie city?

I say this simply because, to me, it feels like we Aspies are from a different culture. We're just different from NTs and we have a different set of values etc. All the things that different cultures have.

I'm not saying it would be some kind of haven, there'd still be problems but they would be associated with AS per se... Or rather, things that are considered "problems" in NT society would simply be "the norm" in Aspie society.

Just a fun thought I have sometimes.

Seems like a lot of people have that same idea. To wit:

I am working on a project with a group of other aspies, finding it frustrating.

I don't think that ghettoization is ever a good idea.

Yeah I find the same and also who do you allow to come?
Also people with "just" autistic tendencies?
People with an autism suspicion?

And I also don't think it would really work. In the world there are different types of personalities and that's a good thing, the mixture.

This topic has come up multiple times already here on WP, I will state here what I've stated before:

No, not a good idea. I for one, would likely not get along any better in a community like that, than I do now. Furthermore, the way society views those on the spectrum these days, it would have to be a rather secure area to prevent outsiders from coming and taking advantage of the fact that we all live there, crime would be through the roof, simply because criminals think we're an easy target.

Even if there were something like this in the world, I would never live there.

That is all.

What if instead of an Aspie town, a reality show with a houseful of Aspies such as the show "Real World" was developed and the goal to win would be to get along with your roommate and succeessfully complete challenges that come up along the way (not sure what the challenges would be). Maybe there is a better tv show format than Real World, but that is just an idea. 8)

yes, it is best if the associations are kept small-scale as in a few people in a household or in a group of houses/apartment/condo complex.

Also a school for Aspies would be helpful and realistic and has been done in the past and present.

Online is how it works. Offline, the whole freedom to vs. freedom from hassle gets renewed on the molecular level. This from someone in an "intentional community." I only stopped for directions out.

I think an Aspie city would be a great idea, but don't expect me to move to it!

I'm already living in my ideal Aspie place - a cottage with no name on it and no doorbell, one of a hamlet of four houses with a name few can pronounce, 1.5 miles down a dead-end lane off a minor road, in the middle of nowhere. Come and see me... if you can find me!

I live in the middle of nowhere also. I live beyond ordinary television and cell phone reception.

I also live on a dead end street. It is fantastic. I recently found out that my address does not show up on GPS. There are people who have lived in this town all their lives who couldn't tell me where my street is. And there are only about 10 streets in this little town. Its actually a dead end street off of a dead end street. I love it. No traffic. But my neighbors seem to think that the middle of the street is a good place to park :x

Uhm, whatever.

I don't think I would go, if there were a city with only people on the spectrum.

It's nothing personal; it's just that I hate changes and I wouldn't like to go to another city.

Also, it's not that I get along better with people on the spectrum than with NT people.

I just have troubles getting along with anyone.

I'm not sure if that city would be sustainable, less cruel, etc. than typical cities with typical people. No with the current technology and this aggressive globalization.

I don't think it would work for me.
