I often go on long hikes, because I enjoy walking, like the scenery around where I live, and hiking provides an 'escape' from my day-to-day life.

I live in north-western England, near several hill and mountain ranges (the Pennines, the Yorkshire Dales, the Lakeland Mountains etc.), where I often go on camping trips, so when I am camping I can do some good hill walking in spectacular scenery. The furthest I have ever walked in a day is about 24 miles, which took me 8 hours.

I walk about 4-8 mile a day down at the river trail. Back when I was a teen living up in Idaho, when ever I got in trouble at school(And it happen frequently.) and had to stay after school. I had to walk 26 miles to get home and most of the time, it was in the dark.

I did 3 marathons in the 1990's, with the times: 3:47:03; 3:49:04, and 4:18 something.

I walk now--my knees are too "shot" to run. I've had two meniscus surgeries, one on each knee.

I live in NYC, but in a relatively "suburban" part of Queens.
