Hi, I joined a few days ago and on my profile I put that I didnt know, undiagnosed.

As some of you may have already seen when I introduced myself, I work with young autistic children, and for some time I have suspected that I may have some form of Autism/Aspergers. Please excuse my ignorance here, the children that I have worked with have all had a diagnosis of Autism so I havent really encountered Aspergers.

I have done a couple of the online quiz type things and always seem to score higher than my work colleagues. I just did an Aspie quiz that was a link in another thread and it scored me

125/200 Aspie
77/200 NT
very likely an Aspie

I have had similar scores from the others. At the moment I am wondering what the difference is between something like OCD and Aspergers obsessions. Again, apologies for my ignorance in this subject. I am getting quite obsessive about checking certain things in a certain order and although it upsets me I know that I still end up doing them so that I can put my mind at rest.

With social situations, I find it difficult being with new people, but always imagined this was a personality thing. I cant really think of many significant details about my childhood but then when I do these questionnaires something might be mentioned which makes me think 'oh yeah, I remember doing that' etc.

There are other things which I didnt really notice until I started my line of work, such as my avoidance of eye contact (have always looked at mouths but didnt even notice this before I was made aware of it), fiddling (I do it a lot with my hands, keys or pens) and that I really like routines.

Well, what I am wondering, is how you all got a diagnosis. Did you go to your doctor?

welcome to wp.

in my case i had a specialist checked me, but i'm certain it's no fluke when she said "i don't have it" i've been trained for years by my family so i tend to fly under the radar so to speak. my suggestion is yes go see a doctor and do have a therapist. that way you can move more with your life as freely as possible. my advice is (especially your working with kids) try to focus on their eyes. i have that problem too but i try to fix on their eyes. and do have something to occupy you on your free time (i do calligrahy, boxing, baking or my pet shihtzu) that way you don't "fixate on things"

gtg, welcome to wp

I am not going to any doctors. Not only do I trust NTs with my brain like I'd trust the local wrench to work on a Porsche, but also: Our society ain't getting any more free, and I am concerned about having an official diagnosis in my dossier!
