I came in head to head contact with a kid that I was working with in class today. I asked if I was going to get head lice from the kid. I was told that the kids don't tell if they have it and to have my mom check my head.

I'm really panicking right now. The thought of my clothes getting ruined from hot water and being dried on high heat really upsets me!

My head isn't itchy nor do I feel crawling. Should I be worried about getting head lice?

I'm not sure if you are at risk or not, but one thing I've heard is that you can also kill bugs in clothes, bedding, etc by freezing them in the freezer -- so, not just boiling is a way to kill things.

I don't know how well the freezing works, and I believe it has to be for anything from days to a couple of weeks, but at least the technique isn't as damaging to fabric as heat methods would certainly be.

I wouldn't worry. If you haven't noticed the kid itching his head lately then he probably doesn't have lice.
