Jennie, my bro who believes I'm aspie and attended a conference and gave me this link. He is an NT (neurotypical). It can be difficult communicating with NT's who have to try to imagine that you are one of them and treat them accordingly. Speak slowly, don't use too many logical steps, use metaphors. NT's tend to be less skeptical than you might imagine, so you do not have bombard them with facts and logic to convince them of your point of view. They also tend to have difficuly distinguishing between fact, opinion and hypothesis. They also need to feel that you care about them, you let them know simply by asking one or two non-probing questions and maybe a compliment. NT's are very emotional so one must be careful not to hurt their feelings.

I find this forem difficult to navegate. What is a BBCode?

those are those things that enable italics and bolded type and colors and fontsizes and such. they look like-

[I]italic[/I]
[b]bold[/b]
[color=red]red[/color]
[size=29]size[/size]

you do these things in order for your posts to appear italicizes, colored, bolded and large-or-small print.

Through a friend on a different forum, slightly before my formal diagnosis.

I was looking up something to do with addictive personality and repetition. I had done a lot of self searches with Asperger's as a result so google matched me to a forum discussion on addiction.

I googled "forum for people with Asperger's syndrome". I've always liked reading forums for various things, though I usually don't join them. I read here for quite a while and decided to join.

I was reading The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome, due to my suspicion that I may have Asperger's syndrome.

The message was basically: Interacting in an online community with people who think similarly creates benefits in a person.

I took that left turn at Albuquerque. Unfortunately that is where Bugs Bunny and I parted company.
