FIRST CHOICE: Any of the several national anthems set to "Beethoven's Ode To Joy" ( the list includes the European Union, several Pacific Island nations, and growing list of new third world countries).

Its a rousing tune that's easy for untrained singers to sing, and for a group of untrained singers to join into as a group.

SECOND CHOICE: France's "La Marsalles". For the same reasons as above.

I'm fairly familiar with national anthems from Pacific Island nations (along with regional modern history), but I wasn't aware of any national anthems based on Ode to Joy. A couple are based on German tunes, but not that one AFAIK. Which other nations have anthems based on that piece?

Just like the Canadian one, I like mine because of it being a very unaggressive one, so the before mentioned chinese one with the blood and bodies, building a new wall sounds really creepy to me, in relation to the thousands of workers that have died for building the first great wall of china (And have been buried beneath it. O_o (Sorry, to chinese people, not mentioned in a bad way, but picturing that hymn is very gore for me. :( )

Literal English

Land of mountains, land on the river,
Land of fields, land of cathedrals,
Land of hammers, with a good future.
Homeland are you of great sons,
Nation graced with beauty,
much praised Austria,
much praised Austria!

Strongly fought for, fiercely contested,
You lie at the continent's center
like a strong heart.
You have borne since ancient times
The burden of a high mission,
much tested Austria,
much tested Austria!

With courage into a new age,
free and believing watch us stride,
happily working and full of hope.
In fraternal chorus let us swear in unity
fatherland, our allegiance to you,
much beloved Austria,
much beloved Austria!

Melody: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) or Johann Holzer (1753-1818)

Can't believe neither of these have come up yet:

And of course, as a loyal Brit how could I miss out this one?

Such a pity, then, that it's not the National Anthem. It's Advance Australia Fair.
