There are so many Christmas songs made over the years, and not only are there the number of Christmas songs high, but there are also various versions of them all, so in the long run if you add all of them up/together it is a "giant collection".
There are various songs one might often hear on the radio during the month of december, some well known songs being: Maria Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You", Bing Crosby's "White Christmas", "The Christmas Song (Chestnut's Roasting On An Open Fire)", "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas", Chris Rea's "Driving Home For Christmas", "Jingle Bell Rock", "Little Drummer Boy", "Santa Baby", "Let it Snow", Mel & Kim's version of "Rockin Around The Christmas Tree", "Winter Wonderland", Michael Buble's version of "It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas" - The list goes on and on.

I must say i do find it somewhat difficult to pick out just 5 songs, considering there actually are many pretty ones. But after some hard thinking and "going back and forth's" in my head, i ended up choosing these:

1. The Pogues Ft. Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale Of New York

2. John Lennon - Happy Xmas (War Is Over)

3. Wham - Last Christmas

4. Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas

5. Maria Mena - Home For Christmas

So now it's your turn, What are your 5 favorite Christmas songs, it can be a certain version/cover of a song which you might like better than another, it can be an original one - whatever song, it's up to you.

Cool to see another Maria Mena fan on this forum, Monolithe! She was the first 'famous' singer I ever saw live. Looked me right in the eyes while singing, too, so that quite made me blush!

I'll refrain from posting video links, just for the sake of the size of my post... they are all pretty much well-known and therefore easy to look up on Youtube:

1. '2,000 Miles', The Pretenders (originally not an actual Christmas song, but has since been viewed as such)
2. 'Please Come Home For Christmas', Eagles
3. 'All I Want For Christmas Is You', Mariah Carey
4. 'Stop The Cavalry', by Jona Lewie (as with '2,000 Miles', it's not 'really' a Christmas song, but its lyrics mention Christmas, and thus it gets a lot of airplay during the holidays)
5. 'It's Gonna Be A Cold Cold Christmas', Dana

I like Mannheim Steamroller, in particular most of the songs from the Christmas in the Aire album. We listened to that in the car while driving by Christmas lights once which is a nostalgic childhood memory.

Younger forumites (and non-Brits) may need to Google "Subbuteo" and "Scalextric" :)

Oh all right, a proper Christmas classic

Darlene Love - Christmas (Baby please come home)

and it wouldn't be Christmas without Noddy

Slade - Merry Christmas Everybody

Ok, I was in the middle of a diatribe about how "Last Christmas" by Wham may actually be the worst song ever, let alone the worst Christmas song' when my browser crashed. Maybe Safari has a thing for Wham.

Anyway, "last Christmas" by Wham is THE WORST SONG EVER RECORDED, EVER!

It's schmaltzy and whiney. And the tune is banal!

I first heard it while trapped in a store many Decembers ago. I was so appalled I had to figure out who wrote and performed it so I could make sure never to listen to anything they had ever done ever again. When I learned it was a Wham song, I wasn't really surprised.

Anyway, sorry to be so harsh, but there are times when serious harshness is the only sane response.

Actually the lyrics in the song aren't very impressive, but that's not what i like about the song anyway so it doesn't matter, i like the melody.
Besides i guess another reason why i like it is because that was one of the first Christmas songs i heard, so i basically grew up with it.
So that song also "brings back" good childhood memories. I guess it's a love it or hate it song, and in a way i can understand that you dislike it, because in all honesty it is quite cheesy/corny

I love "I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas,", "Joy to the world," , "Silent Night," "Oh Come oh e faithful,"

I saw the Grown Up Christmas list. Like that too! Because I want other people to be happy for Christmas. I want to give them my book! I want to publish it and I Want as many people to buy it.

Yes- I want that- but I want to GIVE THE BOOK to other's.
And I love "Last Christmas," Because of the LYRICS! '
