I heard that Satan's dad used to beat him up regularly when he was a kid, and that's why he turned out so bad. Is this true?

You are completely misunderstanding the whole concept of Satan, in the Abrahamic religions:

Satan isn't doing evil deeds, like punishing people. Satan is the deciever. who tempts you to do evil stuff yourself, thus bannishing yourself from the Heavenly kingdom.

According to the Abrahamic religions, Satan is a fallen angel, who rebelled against God.

To counteract God, Satan decieves people by leading into the other way, away from God.

Sure, why not. Sounds as believable as the official story line.

I think it was a ruler across the knuckles just like in catholic schools and divine atomic wedgies.
