And now, the "How black and whack are you?" quiz:

... see? Suddenly racism ain't funny anymore.

I can see how this could be seen as racist, too...

'How White And Nerdy Are You'

My first thought after reading the question posed by this thread was ... well, what if your not white?!
..why does skin colour or race make a difference - it shouldn't.

I think it enforces negative stereotypes... and excludes some wrongplanet.net members from responding to a question which, if phrased better would be more inclusive.

Would the joke be funny if Richard Pryor told it?

'How White And Nerdy Are You' and 'How black and whack are you?' are jokes. Ethnic comedians have always made fun of their own kind, sometimes for the purpose of increasing intra-social awareness. Even here, we make fun of aspies.

For a joke to be a joke it needs to be funny.

This is just insensitive.

Or maybe I'm just too easily pissed off today...

32 percent.

(I'm surprised it isn't higher.)

You might want to know the origin of the quiz:

Don't tell me that isn't racism.

The concept is funny, but he didn't have to include the word "white". That was unessecary in my opinion.

The whole song is sung in first person. How is it offensive for a person to describe himself?

Besides, it's not any more offensive than the song it's a parody of... "Ridin" Here's some info from Wikipedia:
Ridin' is the second single from Chamillionaire's album, The Sound of Revenge. The lyrics concern racial profiling, police brutality, and air pollution, as well as the stereotyping of Black Americans driving a vehicle with drugs or other contraband on the inside ("riding dirty"). The music video attempts to create a sense of the police abusing their powers despite the singer admitting to various lesser crimes including driving under the influence, juxtaposing police actions with wrestling scenes to show how the police allegedly treat suspects. The video also has cameo appearances by Tom Lister Jr., Play-N-Skillz, Chingo Bling, OG Ron C, and Chamillionaire's younger brother Rasaq.

Wierd Al does parodies. That's all it is, is poking fun at something else. All of his songs are written with the permission of the original song's artist.

Hmmmm .... careful, here....

Are you now debating whether the song is racist or the original post ?

Remember: the song has only just been posted here, and may be the first time anyone has seen it.

Whereas the (mini)-debate on this subject (so far) has been on the post/thread.

If they did make a black and whack quiz, I'm sure most of the people that would do that are white and nerdy anyways :P

14%. I'd make a webpage of my pets if I could get someone on my cat site to help me.

It is sung in first person yes, but the message of the film is that the white guy can't hang out with the black guys because he is WHITE and nerdy.

So there are two reasons why he can't hang with them. The first reason, WHITE is unecessary. If racism shall be illegal it has to go both ways.
ALso the "exclusivities" about it being ok as long as you ridicule your own race is just flat out stupid.
If a white man isn't allowed to say the N-word, a black man shouldn't either. But you know what? Black people call each other the N-word and not only that, they use names like "whiteboy" often when talking to white people.

You can't have exclusive rules for anyone regarding racism. Its just not fair for anyone. No matter what, someone gets hurt by it.
