I've always had a problem with eye contact but not sure if that's AS related or circumstantial ....

Having a squint to be paranoid about doesn't help things either

I usually make an attempt to make eye contact, but I never know the appropriate length of time to do it. Sometimes I fear that my "eye contact" might come off as staring.

I find that trying to make contact between my eyes and someone else's is like trying to make contact between two magnets with the same polarity.

Generally I don't make eye contact. But here's something strange:

I'm white/hispanic. My wife is asian. When talking to people I don't really know (e.g. drugstore clerk, etc), I find that if I am talking to an asian female, I don't have TOO much trouble making eye contact. Other races, however, are a problem. I'm not sure why this is...

Parent-teacher conferences are the worst. My kids are good, smart kids, no problems in school at all. So the conferences are completely non-controversial. But some teachers insist on doing eye contact on some sort of "bionic retina scan" level that makes me EXTREMELY uncomfortable...
