now january one hast
the coming gray damp cold january
is to me but depressing and scary
it's like pushing a big ol' stone yet again
up a steep slippery hill against the grain
why can't it just be december forever
and for once and all, january never?

I live surrounded by dense tall forest and fireworks are not visible here, but I hear a warzone nonetheless all around me as my neighbors are blasting away with shotguns and leftover july 4th fireworks.
