Overall, the left is more hateful than the right
Why do some (not all or even most) liberals so frequently accuse the right of being hateful and racist when the most severe and pervasive hatred and racism in American is produced by the left? I know some people here will disagree with me that the left tends to be more hateful than the right. I challenge those people to provide the five worst examples of hateful and/or racist speech from a prominent conservative or conservative politician within the last 20 years. Then I'm confident that I can provide five examples of hateful and/or racist speech from a prominent liberal or liberal politician that are much worse. I'm not trying to make people angry, I just really want to have this debate to see if maybe I am missing something in my assessment of the situation.

Fine, that's fair enough, although I hardly know where to start. There's the recent debacle on Melissa Harris-Perry's MSNBC show where one of the panelists commented about a picture of the Romney family, including Romney's black (adopted) grandson, by saying "one of these things is not like the other." Another panelist said that the photo "really sums up the diversity of the Republican Party." Of course, that's hardly the worst. Andre Carson said that his tea party affiliated colleagues in Congress want to see black people "hanging on a tree." Rep. Maxine Waters said that "the tea party can go straight to hell." Rep. Louise Slaughter said that her Republicans want to "kill women." Liberal talk show host Mike Malloy said "somebody ought to wrap a strong Republican entrail around his [Matt Drudge's] neck and hoist him up about 6 feet in the air and watch him bounce.” Rep. Ryan Winkler called Clarence Thomas "Uncle Thomas." Then there's all of the anti-gay slurs Alec Baldwin made. That's more than five but there are so many more. I challenge someone to come up with worse examples than these from the right. If they somehow do, I have saved the worst and most hypocritical for last!
But I'm not a coward, so I'll pretend to be a racist liberal (I know liberals are not all racist people just like republicans aren't).
The right is against welfare, and calls the working poor 'homeless bums', many of which are migrant minority families, with no health insurance.
The right is against amnesty for illegal immigrants under the age of which they would be responsible for themselves, and wants to deport innocent children back to an already poverty and drug ridden nation.
The right is full of hate filled old men who have made various racist remarks.
The right is against obama, and calls him a terrorist.
The left promotes poverety through socialist reform and redistribution of welfare. These reforms are how lenin destroyed much of Russia, not to mention the rural Ukraine.
The left is in control of the media, as most of the men who own these media mogal companies are big liberals who will portray every right minded person as a bad individual.
Obama is a communist, but is the only reason I am still on one of the insurance plans I am, so I'm not going to insult him much.
eco liberals are not hanging all the members of SEA SHEPARD inc. for being eco terrorists, and is thereby supporting a man wanted by interpol, and therefore should all be arrested and thrown in a Japanese gulag.
Yay pollution.

I'm not going to make any generalizations on racism and other bigotry in the two camps, but it has definitely been my personal experience that people on the left have a worse opinion of people on the right than vice versa, best summed up by the aphorism "the right thinks the left is wrong, the left thinks the right is evil".
Cue lefty folks telling me how the right is evil.

Who said this. The call of the question requires specific examples from prominent liberals or liberal politicians.
This is an opinion about a policy matter. Nobody has the right to be in this country illegally and thus it is as legitimate to oppose amnesty as it is to support it. Don't mistake policy positions for hate speech.
The right is against obama, and calls him a terrorist.
Again, I need specifics. What was said or done and who said or did it. The problem is that liberals make these types of accusations all of the time and there is no factual basis for them. For example, if I were to give specifics to back this up as an accusation against liberals, I would quote Joe Biden, Harry Reid, and Robert Bird, among others. Harry Reid commented that Obama was "light skinned... with no negro dialect unless he wanted to have one." Biden said that Obama was "the first sort of mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and nice-looking guy." Sen. Robert Byrd was a KKK leader once and has said various racist things such as saying "white n-word."
That's certainly true but I'm not sure how it's relevant.
I get that but he is also the only reason why millions of people are losing health insurance policies that they liked.

Creating a definitive list of "the worst things said by conservative American politicians" is very hard. Here is a quick one, though doubtless someone more au fait in such things could provide a better one (I have limited myself to 1 per politician, and nothing from Dubya or Palin, so it isn't one crazy bigot or just stupidity):
Comparing homosexuality to incest.
The South has always stood by the Constitution and limited government. When one attacks the Confederate Battle Flag, he is certainly denouncing these principles of government as well as Christianity.”
Walrus, thank you for your post and for the Latin word I never heard before (I like learning Latin phrases). There are some good ones here and I think it is hard to quantify or otherwise put value on hate, so there may be some disagreement as to what is more hateful. I will go through them.
This is a slippery slope argument (an argument, however poorly conceived, is not really comparable to hateful statements with virtually no argument value). I think his point is that there is no logical distinction that can be drawn between these activities and the others in so far as the constitution protects them as rights. There are no degrees of constitutionality like there are of morality.

There is much to disagree with here but this isn't really the type of hateful rhetoric I am talking about. Where is the hate here? Outrageous and stupid political opinions are another topic in my opinion. Liberals have conservatives beat there too.
This is her religious belief. She believes that being gay is a sin. This is an example of a stupid opinion based on ignorance and the bible. She's not describing how her political opponents should die tortuous deaths, for example.
This is not as outrageous as it sounds. See http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldne ... itain.html
Again, this is his personal religious belief. He's saying that being gay is a sin. This would be like a liberal saying that being against abortion is a sin. It may make honorable mention on my list of stupid things that liberals said (although probably not) but certainly not on my list of hateful things that liberals said.
You have one here that I won't try to defend. But, as promised, here is an analogous one from a liberal: Alan Grayson said that people who support drilling for oil should be put in prison. Sean Penn said people who criticize Hugo Chavez should go to prison.
Actually, there's a critical difference that makes this a false analogy: Transgender people are a highly marginalized, persecuted group, while those who favor drilling for oil are among the most privileged and well-off.

It doesn't matter where they are now. What matters is where the people we quoted want them to be.
