Nervous NC police officer calls 911 after killing sick kid

The fact that the cop reportedly called 911 to report what he had done seems a bit unusual. It's like he was trying to create his own public record for his claim of self-defense. This might suggest that he didn't feel he had the support of the other two officers who were at the scene.

Some local news outlets are reporting that the FBI has been brought in to investigate, which might suggest civil rights issues.

The parents seem highly credible as to the time-line of events.

I rarely side with those who are holding weapons, but this is a totally different set of circumstances.

I don't think it sends the right signal to family members of the mentally ill, who will be far more likely to shelter and hide those who may be a real danger to the community.

Knowing about this case, if I was the parent of a mentally ill child, I'd be hesitant to call the police, even if the child had become dangerously out of hand.

Don't ever talk to police unless you have too, you're are only inviting terror and much worse. I've heard way too many stories like this.

Unfortunately, not talking to the police is ofeten viewed by the police as an admission of guilt.

The parents are going to be millionaires, at the public's expense.

Well, the public can thank a trigger happy cop for that.

The Supreme Court has accepted this reasoning in a recent ruling; failure to answer police questions can be used against someone in court... the right to silence no longer exists.
