It's usually at night when I'm in bed. It's stuff what I've heard in the day time but it comes back and I here it again.

What is this?

Does anyone else get it?

Yeah its called Sleep Hypnagogia and its normal, but not everyone experience it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnagogia

I have it and mine manifests itself with random noise, word salad comments, perception phenomena, visual hallucination, voices that include male, female, childlike, lower tone and demonic voices and as well as seeing Gwydion and Rhoslyn much more vividly. The Tetris Effect of this psychological phenomena is rather true to me, especially when I'm heavily focused in a game I'm obsessed or stuck with, I would see and hear it being played out while drifting off to sleep.

It's not a disorder, unless it is present during the day and not sleep deprived etc.

Oh thanks for that.

Yes I get the Tetris effect too and the visual hallucinations. I've always had sleep paralysis, I didn't realise it was all related to each other.

That is one more mystery solved.

Oh man I've had a scary experience with voices. I woke up in the middle of the night, was half asleep, went out into the living room to sleep on the couch, and heard voices calling my name. I just left the room and was too tired to care so I just went back to sleep :p

Unlike you it has only happened once.

Yes, I have intermittent hypnagogia. I identified it a long time ago and wrote it off as nothing to worry about. Relax and don't panic over this one.

if are wanting more support around this there is the hearing voices network and they run groups around the world, they can also offer one to one support.

am a voice hearer equivilent to severe paranoid schizophrenia and was very homicidal and suicidal because of him at one point-saw him and heard him, believed he was there, however acording to LD team pyschs mine was related to being severely autistic.
the long term online bullying and various other traumas last year as well as in past had all triggered this.
am on halperidol now which helps greatly with the voices, risperidone never worked though did help a lot of autism issues.

Used to, but never knew about its origins etc. Interesting stuff! That and sleep paralysis definitely made for an... interesting childhood.

I heard voices arguing on two separate occasions. I woke up at 1:30am by my sister arguing with her neighbour over having too many parties in the backyard. Talked to her about it the next day and she didn't seem to remember.

Then it happened at around 6pm a few days later where my neighbour was yelling to get the party music turned off. And the music went off. I went down stairs because there would have been about 20 people there by now and the party situation was normal. People were drinking and the dj was still playing music.

I get sleep paralysis from time to time but I either hear few words or it's all a garble. This was a clear argument. I remember everything said.

I have certainly had that when going to sleep, though can't really distinguish anything being said...but like has already been mentioned it is fairly normal. I have also had weird things like drifting off to sleep thinking I see something that startles me but then there's nothing there like the other night I was drifting off to sleep thought there was a big spider on my ceiling above my bed and could see it looking at me so I got up all startled turned on the light to look for the spider and realized for one it was too dark to have seen a spider even if there was one in the first place so there was never a spider. I have also had times when I just get to sleep and dream something bit me and wake up from the sudden 'pain' except in these instances nothing actually bit me. I have had some much weirder experiences at night though and not so so those where all related to normal as you're going to sleep/waking up hallucinations some people get, but i won't get into all that weirdness as it could derail the thread.

I've had sleep paralysis a couple times, I found it more frusterating than anything but it also happened like in the morning when I was just starting to wake up so it wasn't dark and I didn't have any weird visual/auditory stuff going on. Just the feeling of being thirsty and wanting to get out of bed but not being able to till it wears off.

Like everyone else said, it is a sleep-related thing. I thought I was losing my mind or schizophrenic when I was younger (middle-school and high-school) because of hallucinations that happened at night and during sleep. As an adult I was finally diagnosed with narcolepsy and this sleep issue is very common in narcolepsy. During the sleep tests, you have to fall into REM (rapid-eye-movement, AKA dream sleep) within 4 minutes of falling asleep on a certain number of instances. I went into REM within two minutes. Narcolepsy messes up your whole sleep cycle and is why you can be awake and asleep at the same time. I often hear one of my kids crying in the mornings when I am not fully awake even though they aren't. One day in the past week, I listened to a favorite song on repeat for several hours and that night, I was hearing the song still even though it wasn't playing. My mind had recorded it I guess and as I was going to sleep it was replaying it. Once I had this paralysis upon waking and I was hearing the smoke alarm, but couldn't move and couldn't smell smoke. I was trying to get up to get others out of the house. Then I thought I was dying and had actually gone back to sleep. Woke up shortly thereafter: no smoke alarm, no housefire. It was worse while taking antiepileptic medication/s prescribed as an adult that I didn't actually need (had an encounter with an overzealous and inexperienced neurologist who also had her own agenda). I don't have the classic narcolepsy stereotyped presentation with falling asleep unexpectedly or with extreme emotion. I just have a tendency to fall asleep if I sit too long, like after 15 or 20 minutes usually. It's very rare that I feel refreshed in the mornings. I think nocturnal seizures can also cause these hallucinations as well. Might have to look that up. Another thing that goes along with narcolepsy often is cataplexy (not catalepsy) which I have as well, mostly with happiness, I think.

is it mere recollection of voices heard during your day OR your mind generating said voices???
