Never understood him, yet now I am really into him. Five years is my favorite song by him as the lyrics are genius. They are so random and absurd and yet strangely moving and sentimental. apparently he used the cut-up technique on a regular basis in which he would cut up sentences and then put them together in order to create interesting linguistic effects, which sounds like a great way of writings and making it more chaotic and free. Does anyone else like them? His son has a film called moon so they must share a genetic hereditary obsession with space. :)

I have not heard much of him. I bought the album that had Stevie Ray Vaughan on it, and didn't like it. I think it was a great loss that SRV decided to withdraw from a planned concert tour with DB. I liked the Ziggy Stardust album and much of the space man stuff he used to do, a lot though. I don't have a lot of knowledge about his music other than that apart from bits here and there. He is one of those guys who I have been meaning to listen to more of.

His film roles are good too. He was good in Labyrinth, and playing Tesla in the Prestige.

I liked Moon as well. In a strange way, it seems to capture the spirit of David Bowie.

I used to hate him.

But then I realized that was because my only exposure to his music at that time in my life was his notoriously awful Never Let Me Down album. Not the best introduction to his work.

I have changed my mind since then.

I have loved his music since I first listened to Hunky Dory.

The man has been as influential in the history of pop and rock music as anyone. New Wave, Post Punk, he had a hand in creating those genres, Changing music from a audio only experience to a audio and visual experience, he had a huge part in that.

I like what I've heard of his music...and The Labyrinth was of course pretty awesome. It seems there are quite a few movies he shows up in...even Zoolander which is pretty hilarious.

I saw that for the first time this year, it was pretty good.

I feel like I'm on the verge of a major foray into Bowie's work. I only know a few songs of his right now, like The Man who Sold the World and Space Oddity, but I really like them and they chart in my own personal 100 favorite songs. It's only a matter of time now before I begin to dig deeper.

Oh, I completely agree. And regarding Labyrinth, even to this day, the childhood memory of the swamp of eternal stench still... "smellssss baaddddd!! !! !"

Labyrinth is probably one of the best movies up there, or pretty close.

I like David Bowie's voice and acting. I don't care for the lyrics in his music necessarily. But I do respect his talent and wish my singing sounded like his. :P

I like the stuff he did in the 1970-1976 period. I'd say Aladdin Sane (1973) is one of the best albums ever recorded, with Ziggy Stardust (1972) and Diamond Dogs (1974) not far behind. His latest recorded work that I cared for was the single Ashes To Ashes (1980).
