I believe the first CD I ever purchased with my own money was Slipknot's self-titled album.

Probably White Zombie's album Astro Creep. Marilyn Manson's Portrait Of An American Family was a close follow-up, along with the first of the two Nativity In Black tribute to Black Sabbath albums. I still remember when Sepultura was 'too heavy' and freaked me out.

The first CD that I ever purchased in a store was a double disc set of Evanescence's Anywhere But Home (Live) which I got around 2008 if I remember correctly. The set came with an audio recording of their concert in Paris and a DVD of the actual concert with bonus backstage/ behind-the-scenes footage. Amy Lee was my hero growing up; I had a huge smile on my face the entire time I watched the DVD. ^^

The first record album (not CD) I ever bought was an album of Carpenters hits, which I purchased in 1973 when I was 12. I purchased it on mail order.
