I've heard different stories from various people on the spectrum, and I guess that has to do with just how much variety there is on the spectrum, how common other disorders are such as anxiety disorder, etc. As for myself, it's helped greatly with my anxiety, insomnia, and socialization.

I asked my therapist about cannabis and depression today. He said it's his belief that marijuana is not helpful for depression and may actually work against it.

I'm curious about weed because I've read about several strains that are good for depression and anxiety. I've also heard, and read, many differing stories. It's so hard to know what to believe.

Everybody is different. I voted no. It made AS worse (not able to follow conversations or speak, not able to pay attention, increased anxiety/paranoia). It did help my depression. I sincerely believe it kept me from killing myself, made me forget about how miserable I was for a few minutes, let me space out.

Maybe one positive thing that it helped me with AS related is that it helped me make friends. I immediately formed bonds with other pot smokers/drug users. After I got clean, I made friends with recovering drug addicts.

Cannibals do NOT help with AS symptoms!!

(unless of course you're suicidal)

Depends on which symptoms you mean. I smoke it on occasion, but I find that it makes me even more introverted than I normally would be so it's not really much of an improvement. I do enjoy it, and do try and make an effort to socialise with other smokers when I get the chance but it's still a long way off "helping".

I find it to be helpful...doesn't make any autism symptoms worse, but it doesn't really change them too much either way except I might have an easier time in social interaction if I smoke. Aside from that I find it helpful for depression, anxiety and PTSD symptoms, mellows me out and makes me feel a little better for a while and I feel its saved me from a couple would be suicide attempts as it makes me rethink the whole thing....though if suicidal feelings persist then I go to the ER but sometimes I just need to calm down and think about it which cannabis can help with.

I think it depends on strain and method of consumption.

I voted no as it increased my paranoia and makes me less able to socialize because it increases my anxiety when attempting to do so. I couldn't have company while high, I'd be even worse than usual and typically I run away anyways.

He might have just been trying to be a responsible adult, so take this with a grain of salt, but Frank Zappa was skeptical about the enjoyment people claimed to get from smoking reefer, since, for him, the experience was unpleasant. It was unpleasant for me as well, but I'm an asthmatic, so my experience probably doesn't apply to others here.

I have no data on this, but maybe the paranoia people get from smoking reefer is a part of the bodies panic response when you fill your lungs with fire and smoke. Holding smoke in your lungs is also what happens when you're dying of smoke inhalation; your body may not be able to tell the difference, so it makes you paranoid. Just a thought.

I think its also been said that having it illegal can create paranoia because by smoking it you're doing something illegal...so the risk of being penalized. But I think for some people THC can make them feel more anxious or paranoid regardless of those other potential reasons for paranoia.

No. Actually can make my symptoms worse but it does calm me down from all the anger and hatred I have for so many people...But if I'm going to do something social...forget about it!

I've had this real strong indica for a while now, puts benzos to shame when it comes to dealing with anxiety/panic.

No medications prescribed by a doctor have ever helped me with my autism symptoms as much as marijuana.

I smoked my first joint, then I threw up, then I threw up again, the third time I threw up I decided that recreational drugs were not for me.

I am not sure about helping the actual symptoms of Autism, but it is the only medicine that has helped my co-morbids. Depression, insomnia, lack of appetite, all alleviated by cannabis. The anxiety is sometimes helped, sometimes magnified. I think it does depend on strain and method of ingestion. I find eating cannabis butter/other oils never creates anxiety, but it makes me quite sedated. I use it for sleep mostly. Sativa strains have the highest thc/cbd ratio, so they may produce anxiety, and have in me. For anyone with high anxiety, I would suggest an Indica based strain. I am excited about the development of low thc/high cbd strains, as these are being developed purely for medicine.
