Me and this girl know each other; we're not really friends but I really like her. So we were working on something together (an art thing) so here's the convo:

Her: "so should I use the same color you used, or it doesn't matter?"
Me: "i don't know, the color I used doesn't exactly match our template"
Her: "yeah exactly lmao"
Me: "so just use the pinkest color your heart desires" (she's not at all a pink kinda girl)
Her: "i don't even like pink lol"
Me: "I'm just messing with you :p I think you're more of a red/orange girl lol"

So after that, she didn't reply. Was this a stupid thing to say?

It's neither stupid nor smart. It's just random talk. Nothing worth thinking too much about.

Well, unless the two of you are not from cultures that associate pink with females:

Girls get pink crap shoved down their throats from birth onward. It's one of the less serious things that we are supposed to like as girls, and used to freaking mark us so that people can brainwash us with the "appropriate" sex role. But the female sex role is a role of subordination, therefore pink is a symbol of female subordination, therefore joking about it is insensitive.

She probably doesn't understand why that was funny to you, so she didn't laugh. I have a pink McDermott pool cue, a pink snap on ratcheting screwdriver, and fell in love with a pink 1968 427 big block chevelle ss stationwagon a while back. That car was bad to the bone.

It would be really stupid if you tried to explain to her why you thought a comment like that was funny. There you go mixing colors with feelings and emotions again?

You probably didn't guess her favorite color. Maybe you will see her wearing orange, and red now, I don't know.

No, that was not.

I don't get why she didn't reply. I would say: "You are right. I love red!" or "No, I'm not, I prefer green/yellow/blue/whatever" if I was her. The more stupid thing was the "so just use the pinkest color your heart desires" in my opinion - is it an English idiom I don't know (English isn't my national language) or you just made the whole sentence? Or maybe the template needed a color similar to pink?
